Striketags no longer work. And it\'s either a surname or a larger-than-life martial arts name (that probably sounds cooler to Japanese ears). I don\'t think it really qualifies for \"In Name Only\".

Originally thieves and con artists (not in that order). The group slowly find themselves absorbed into Goku and Bulma's quest for the Dragon Balls in the original series. Yamcha was Bulma's first love till [[strike:his vagabond ways drove her off]] the author decided he wanted more Saiyajins in the series. Even in the original series, Yamcha was mostly used as the primary victim of the WorfEffect, hardly winning any important fights despite being one of the most powerful protagonists. By Z he was pretty much a target to show how tough the villains were, so much so that around the Buu Saga he gave up fighting entirely (except for fillers in which he somehow defeated enemies even Goku had trouble with a few years before).

Delinking Dethroning Moment Of Suck, which has to be signed and only be on those pages.

* TheWorfEffect: Yamcha suffers from this as early as ''DragonBall'', always losing in his first round in the three world tournaments he participates in to show how powerful Jackie Chun, Tien, and Hero/Shen/Kami are, despite his training. In ''Z'', he makes an impressive showing against a Saibaman and ''almost'' seems to avert this trope, but [[DethroningMomentOfSuck he then ends up dying probably the most embarrassing death in the entire series.]] ''[[{{Mook}} To cannon fodder.]]''
** [[SuicideAttack At least the last example was a suicide attack]] and he died because he didn´t pay attention for a moment, not because he was too weak.
*** Also keep in mind, they WERE all equally as strong as Raditz. Yamcha had trained enough to be stronger than Goku was a year ago, and it only took him that year to do it.

Goku's second mentor, Karin is an 800 year old talking cat who lives in Korin's Tower directly under Kami's lookout. Yajirobe is a fat, samurai vagabond who eventually started living with Karin. Korin's senzu beans, which causes full healing from physical injury after being eaten, play a big part in the series.
