* PowerfulButIncompetent: Upon his debut, Gotenks was one of the most powerful fighters in the setting, being able to take on Super Buu with multiple tricks at his disposal and was able to reach Super Saiyan 3 with little effort. However, because of him being too thick-headed, easily distracted, and having a love of showing off that gives him a serious case of SkewedPriorities, Gotenks ends up making really reckless and stupid decisions that gives his opponents the upper hand in battle. Because of this, Goku and Vegeta disqualify Gotenks (and by extension Goten and Trunks) from the Tournament Of Power as being a potential liability.

Because of this, Goku and Vegeta disqualify Gotenks (and by extension Goten and Trunks) from the Tournament Of Power as being a potential liability. It's very telling that his only undisputed victory in the series is against a human army (an army that had just EscapedFromHell, but in all other respects they were an ordinal human military force), and that was in a NonSerialMovie.

* UnderestimatingBadassery: He manages to underestimate ''Super Buu'', despite the weaker Fat Buu making short work of him. He refuses to use Super Saiyan 3, wanting the fight to be as dramatic as possible, so he fights Buu in his base form and as a normal Super Saiyan until he's forced to transform.
* UnskilledButStrong: He's one of the strongest characters in the entire ''Z'' series, only behind [[StoryBreakerPower Vegito]] and [[TheGift Gohan]] in the Buu Saga, but he's also by far the most naive. He prioritizies showing off over actually saving people and most of his techniques fall into AwesomeButImpractical. His lack of experience and self-control causes him to lose to an opponent that he overpowered (his fusion broke before he could kill Buu). Despite his power, he's still the merger of two children. This is just one of many reasons Goku and Vegeta refuse to let them on Team Universe 7 for the Tournament of Power, since Gotenks, for all his power, would easily be knocked out by more skilled fighters.

* WhatTheHellHero: Called out several times, mostly by Piccolo, for his careless actions that nearly get him killed. Since he is literally the last hope on Earth, him dying would be the end of everyone. He gets another one from Piccolo for faking being weak just to show off. This caused Piccolo and him to be trapped in the Time Chamber, which led to Buu escaping and killing everyone.

On top of Buu killing the population of the Earth including his friends and family, he also makes it even more personal when Buu absorbs his sons and Piccolo into him, taking on their mannerisms to further taunt him. Buu on the other hand despises Vegito more than anyone else, for being the one opponent he can ''never'' defeat and for the endless HumiliationConga the Fused Saiyan put him through.

Composite Character is about an adaptation merging two separate characters from the source material, not two characters literally becoming one in-universe

* CompositeCharacter: [[FusionDance Literally]]. He combines features of Goten and Trunks... though he ends up looking kinda like a chibi Vegeta, because Trunks mostly has Vegeta's facial features, so once you add black hair...

* CompositeCharacter:
** About halfway between Goku and Vegeta in height, frame, and hairdo, with Goku's skintone. By some strange coincidence, the result looks similar to how Gohan did during the same saga. He also has composite ''attacks''. For example, the "Final Kamehameha". Personality-wise, he strongly favors Goku with his sense of humor, battle instincts, and his desire to rescue Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo before destroying Buu. He also, at least in Japanese, has a bit of Goku's 'country hick accent' in the way he talks. However, he has Vegeta's cunning mind and cocky attitude which leads him to having a tendency for arrogantly taunting his foes. Oddly though, [[SubvertedTrope unlike either Vegeta or Goku]], he has a slightly reddish-brown tint to his hair akin to that of Vegeta's ''father'', though not to the same extent.
** Additionally, unlike the Fusion Dance, Vegito not only inherits physical and personality traits of both Goku and Vegeta, but also gains a set of clothing that is a combination of the two: Goku's gi with the colors inverted to make the outfit primarily blue like Vegeta's standard ensemble, plus Vegeta's gloves and boots.

* AdaptationalBadass: Downplayed or played straight, depending on your point of view. While his Super Saiyan form was extremely powerful, his strength was upped dramatically in ''GT'' where he becomes a Super Saiyan 4. He was the most powerful character in the franchise until the post-''Battle of Gods'' era. In the new era, it's somewhat nebulous as to how powerful Super Saiyan 4 is compared to Blue,[[note]]The only time they've appeared together is ''Heroes'', which not only plays hard and fast with continuity and power levels but has the two forms fight in 3 adaptations of the same story, each with a different result: the manga and anime have them clash evenly, with the anime seemingly though disputably implying 4 is stronger through fusion the game has Blue come out on top.[[/note]] but the fact remains that he's clearly a strong fighter. [[spoiler:In ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'', Gogeta Blue is arguably the strongest non-angelic character outside of perhaps full power Jiren and Ultra instinct Goku.[[note]]How strong Broly and Gogeta are relative to Jiren and UI Goku is fairly nebulous. Restrained Jiren was largely unphased by early Tournament of Power Goku and Vegeta, but did react to attacks. Super Saiyan Broly dominates both Saiyans at their post Tournament power levels without issue. With these forms is about equal to regular Gogeta. But considering how much stronger Blue is than Super Saiyan (Blue is just equal to Wrathful Broly, who no-selled a punch from a Super Saiyan God, which is a form capable of lasting against a restrained Beerus, who took out Super Saiyan 3, 500 times stronger than Super Saiyan, with one move), it's probably to safe to say that Gogeta in his Blue form is stronger than either Jiren or UI Goku.[[/note]] Plus by virtue of how strong Goku and Vegeta have become since the Future Trunks Saga, he is inherently stronger than his Potara counterpart in his last appearance]].

* CompositeCharacter: Notably subverted and due to the circumstances of her creation, it makes her stick out. While she should be this in accordance to the rules of fusion, Kale is very subservient to Caulifla and is completely overshadowed by the latter's personality to the point of not being shown in the slightest, which in turn cranks Caulifla's ego and cockiness UpToEleven in their fusion.

pretty much everyone was able to break the tournament arena casually, it wasn't treated as katchin at all

* {{Jerkass}}: Kefla is essentially Caulifla's cockiness and arrogance pumped up to all too levels. On top of being somewhat caught up in her own strength, she's aggressive, dismissive, rude and incredibly self centered in that all she cares about is winning rather than the stakes of the tournament she's in.

* PhysicalGod: Thanks to being the fusion of two powerful Saiyans, she becomes among the strongest fighters in the Tournament of Power, managing to give a hell of a fight against a tired Goku. Whis states her power rivaled the Spirit Bomb made by the members of Universe 7, and she could even break the Tournament arena casually. However, her power is not enough to awake Jiren from his meditation, but was enough to trigger Goku's [[spoiler:second time using Ultra Instinct]].

* DifficultButAwesome: Both the Potara Fusion and the Metamoran Fusion are not things just anyone can use at any time. For the former, one needs to get earrings from the ''gods'' themselves, and if the earrings are broken, the fusion instantly breaks as well. For the latter, you need to master a dancing technique that has significant drawbacks if done incorrectly to the point of pointlessness.

In the ''Dragon Ball'' universe, fusion (合体, ''Gattai'', "Union") is the process of merging two or more separate beings into one, combining their attributes, from strength and speed to reflexes, intelligence and wisdom. When properly fused, the single being created has an astounding level of power, far beyond what either fusees would have had individually. It should be noted that [[Characters/DragonBallPiccolo Piccolo]], [[Characters/DragonBallZGTSupportingCast Kibito Kai, Old Kai]], [[Characters/DragonBallZamasu Fused Zamasu]], and [[Characters/DragonBallMajinBuu multiple versions of Buu]] are also fusions of a sort, but most of those listen do not drastically change their personalities and all can be found on their respective pages.

Added DiffLines:

* HairTriggerTemper: Much like Caulifla herself, Kefla's quick to irritate and eager to pick fights.

Added DiffLines:

* {{Pride}}: Kefla has inherited Caulifla's pride and turned it UpToEleven, it even becomes her FatalFlaw due to her failure to finish off Goku when she had the chance and overestimates herself when Goku eventually turns the tables on her.

It should be noted that [[Characters/DragonBallPiccolo Piccolo]], [[Characters/DragonBallZGTSupportingCast Kibito Kai, Old Kai]] and [[Characters/DragonBallMajinBuu multiple versions of Buu]] are also fusions of a sort, but the former two do not drastically change their personalities and all can be found on their respective pages.
----
* TheAce: In many areas played straight, [[ZigZaggedTrope zig-zagged]], and [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] depending on the fusion character and situation.
** Played straight in terms of power, and the fact that fusion characters gain all abilities of their fusees [[note]]Barring transformations, as both fusees need to know it for the fusion character to be able to use it too. That being said, if the fusion is powerful enough, they can potentially ascend to transformations that neither fusee had reached yet, as in the case of Gotenks going Super Saiyan 3 when neither Goten nor Trunks could.[[/note]] in a case of AllYourPowersCombined, which can even be more literal when attacks are combined like the Final Kamehameha. Also, fusion characters gain all of the instincts, fighting skills, and experience of their fusees. Also, if the personalities and character traits of the fusees compliment each other (I.E. their combined positive traits reduce their negative traits) then the new fusion character could end up being the perfect warrior from a mental standpoint.[[note]]For instance, Goku's positive traits are that he can relax and be laid back which reduces stress, has incredible intuitive fighting instincts, and loves fighting strong warriors for its own sake rather than it being about domination or ego-stroking. On the other hand, Goku tends not to plan ahead, tends to lead things on for his own amusement in spite of danger, and tends to get caught off guard. In contrast, Vegeta is an excellent tactician and always thinking ahead, is always on his guard, and can reign in his battle lust when the situation calls for finishing the fight fast (and if needed, permanently). But Vegeta is often too tense cutting his effectiveness, thinks too much so he might be slow to react, and can let his ego lure him into making careless mistakes. Fuse them and you've got Gogeta or Vegito. A warrior who loves to fight, likes to show off but isn't blinded by ego, is always on guard but relaxed and confident, can think ahead and has intuitive instincts to pull off amazing stuff on the fly, and has the prudence to end a fight at the right time while finishing off someone for good if needed.[[/note]] If however, the Fusees have more negative traits than positive...
** Subverted when the fusees have more negative traits than positive ones, which is brought out even further in the fusion character. Gotenks for example has the combined arrogance, childishness, and lack of maturity of Goten and Trunks, making him take too long to get serious in many cases. While he is certainly a better fighter and far more powerful than either, neither of his fusees has much experience in life or death combat, which means all his attacks tend to be more show-off than practical.
** ZigZagged depending on the opponent and how well they match up to them. Kefla wasn't much good against Ultra Instinct Goku as neither Caulifla or Kale were polished fighters and had little experience with finesse or technique, whereas Ultra Instinct Goku is finesse and technique maximized plus tons of power.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: One consistent trait found in nearly all mortal fused characters is a Super Shenron-sized ego. The enormous power increase gets to all of their heads in one way or another and often hampers their fighting potential. Gogeta's original appearance in ''Fusion Reborn'' is seemingly the only exception, but his appearances in ''GT'' and ''Super: Broly'' see him showboat much more, [[DownplayedTrope though it doesn't stop him from taking the fight seriously in the latter case]].
* CompositeCharacter: No matter what the type of fusion (Potara, Metamoran, Namekian, etc), the resulting personality will be some mix between the two fusees ranging from subtle and minute to drastic and impossible to miss. The sole exceptions tend to be fusions with kais, as they tend to be the dominant personality regardless of other factors.
* FusionDance: Naturally. The Metamoran Fusion, in particular, is the TropeNamer.
* GodzillaThreshold: Despite it not having any of the drawbacks these thresholds usually do, for Goku and Vegeta, fusion is the last resort reserved for only the [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt worst situations]]. Even once it's established that both methods of fusion [[HourOfPower are temporary]], they still don't like doing it, even though doing so makes them [[TheAce virtually unbeatable]]. Presumably, this is because it goes against their [[BloodKnight nature]] to fight using power they didn't earn (the same reason Goku gave for originally disliking the Super Saiyan God form), thus any victory they achieve using it is empty (and Vegeta just naturally detests the idea of being fused [[VitriolicBestBuds with Goku]]). They are, however, usually willing to put this aside if the situation is bad enough that more than just their lives are at stake, specifically the lives of [[PowerOfLove their families]] (and even then, Vegeta [[RunningGag always]] needs to be reminded what's at stake before agreeing). Otherwise, they won't even consider it. In the case of all other fusion pairings, however, they don't require such an extreme situation; Goten and Trunks rarely enter any fight without first fusing, for example.
* HourOfPower: The Fusion Dance lasts half an hour, while the Potara Fusion lasts an hour if neither fusee is a Supreme Kai. Both fusions last shorter the more energy is exerted.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: It's noted that when the Metamoran fusion is done incorrectly, neither of the fusees remember what happened during their time in their failed fusion.
* {{Portmanteau}}: The fusion's name will be a combination of the two fusees' names. For example, Gogeta is taken from '''Go'''ku and Ve'''geta'''.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Non-evil example. Every fused character speaks with a voice that is a synch of the voices of the two individuals that fused[[note]]with the exception of characters who have a phenomenal difference in power like Kibito Kai where Shin takes dominance, or Fused Zamasu where both being Zamasu himself it is Zamasu's voice who remains, only gaining an echo effect from the fusion[[/note]]

!!Gotenks (ゴテンクス, ''Gotenkusu'')

When Goku returned from the afterlife with the knowledge of the FusionDance but no eligible partner to perform it with, [[BashBrothers Goten and Trunks]] were taught it, and their mothers came up with the combined name Gotenks. The result combines Goten's childishness with Trunks' brattiness to create one of the weirdest and goofiest fighters in the series, the kind who would come up with the Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack.
----
* AesopAmnesia: No matter how many times he screws up, Gotenks never learns from his mistakes or takes things seriously, and continues to be an arrogant {{Jerkass}} who only ever shows off.
* AntiHero: Even though he's on the side of good, he's still a JerkAss who combines the worst of Goten's and Trunks' traits.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: He's strong enough to fight Super Buu... and also an arrogant windbag who cares more about showing off and making himself look cool than saving the world.
* AwesomeButImpractical: So, so much;
** Almost all of the attacks he comes up with are flashy but ineffective. The Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack initially seems to be very powerful and effective, but when Buu later attempts to use it against Vegito, he quickly demonstrates the attack's fatal flaw (the ghosts can be detonated from a safe distance with ki blasts) and subsequently mocks Buu for thinking an attack dreamed up by two kids could beat him.
** Super Saiyan 3. He's the only character shown to be capable of achieving it in the anime besides Goku (not even his fusees can), but the state uses so much power that Gotenks can only use it for five minutes.
** Gotenks' very existence. He is one of the most powerful characters in the Z series, however, because of his childish and arrogant nature he is not very dependable. He could have ended Buu in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, but he was too busy trying to look good. By the time he got serious, almost everyone was dead and he wasted too much time at Super Saiyan 3. He can also only exist for thirty minutes. This leads to the boys being denied multiple opportunities to fight in ''Super'' as the rest of the cast are well aware of these shortcomings, to the point Goku refuses to include Goten and Trunks in the Universe 7 team during the Tournament of Power due to the seriousness of the high stakes at it.
* BadassInDistress: He along with Piccolo are absorbed by Buu to increase his power. He has to be saved by Goku and Vegeta.
* BilingualBonus: Going off by the pinyin-on'yomi name rules of Goten's name, in one form or another, the name "Gotenks" can also be said as "Wutenks" if one disregards the name solely being in katakana.
* BoisterousBruiser: He's more fight-loving [[LargeHam and the biggest loudmouth in the series]]. Though being a loudmouth was what enabled him to create a dimension hole by ''screaming''.
* BrattyHalfPint: Even while on the side of good, he has a pretty bratty attitude, especially considering his proud behavior.
* BreakTheHaughty:
** When Goten and Trunks finally manage to successfully fuse, Gotenks recklessly rushes into battle with Buu and [[CurbStompBattle gets utterly crushed]]. He doesn't learn from this experience, of course.
** Happens again when his constant goofing around during the fight with Super Buu leads to Buu escaping the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and eating all of his loved ones and friends. It's this that [[LetsGetDangerous finally gets him to take the fight seriously]].
* BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: He was seconds away from killing Super Buu when the fusion broke because he couldn't maintain Super Saiyan 3 anymore. And despite the pounding he gave Buu, he healed all the damage without losing any power. The only thing Gotenks manages to do is buy time for Gohan to arrive and even that amounts to nothing in the end since he is absorbed by Buu, making him more powerful than Gohan.
* ButtMonkey: By the ''Super'' era, he definitely counts as this. Aside from headbutting a Ginyu-possessed Tagoma [[GroinAttack in the groin]], he has yet to do anything remotely useful in the rare instances that he actually appears. He gets literally spanked by Beerus, defuses before he can even throw an attack at Frieza because of his time-consuming posturing, fails to stand up to Copy-Vegeta's base form and gets purposefully left out of the Tournament of Power. Even Mr. Satan was considered before him.
* CallingYourAttacks: He even gives names to somewhat stylized versions of otherwise normal punches and kicks, most of which are ridiculous ("''Screaming Angry WOMBAT!!!''"). [[UpToEleven He even keeps cue-cards in his vest that he reads before attacking.]]
* TheChosenOne: {{Deconstructed}}. For a brief, hopeful moment in the Buu Saga, Piccolo declared that Gotenks would be the warrior destined to save the universe from Majin Buu. [[TheUnchosenOne Then]] we see how the full extent of how his particular personality makes him very much ''not'' cut out for it, and that trying to forcibly create an all-powerful saviour will not always be successful.
* CompositeCharacter: [[FusionDance Literally]]. He combines features of Goten and Trunks... though he ends up looking kinda like a chibi Vegeta, because Trunks mostly has Vegeta's facial features, so once you add black hair...
* ConfusionFu: Gotenks has some of the most unpredictable moves in the series, owing to many of them being AwesomeButImpractical and therefore style over subtance, which makes him one of the most confusing opponents to fight. That said, some of these moves ''do'' manage to do some damage.
* CurbstompBattle: His first battle against Fat Buu is this, being unable to do any real damage to Buu and getting beaten so badly that he's only saved by the timely intervention of a human army showing up. His battle as a Super Saiyan 3 against Super Buu on the other hand, put him on the delivering end of this, as Super Buu had been unable to do any significant damage and was seconds away from being destroyed before the fusion ran out.
* CuteBruiser: If you can get past his [[SmugSuper "I'm the best"]] personality.
* ADayInTheLimelight: He unexpectedly takes the spotlight as the main protagonist of the 2008 anniversary short ''Anime/DragonBallYoSonGokuAndHisFriendsReturn'' as he fights against a fellow fusion, Avocado.
* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: Of TheChosenOne, IdiotHero, and SmugSuper. He was created specifically to defeat Majin Buu, and Piccolo outright declares him the warrior destined to do so... but sadly, Gotenks is an immature, egotistical fool who's far more concerned with showboating and looking cool and is virtually incapable of taking things seriously even when lives are at stake, which just keeps making the situation worse; in this order, he gets himself and Piccolo trapped in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, enables Buu to escape and eat all of his loved ones, and gets himself absorbed by Buu, allowing Buu to beat Gohan senseless. Come ''Super'', the rest of the Z-Fighters [[OnceDoneNeverForgotten have yet to forget this]] and unanimously agree that Gotenks can't be trusted or relied upon for anything, especially not something as high-stakes as the [[DeadlyGame Tournament of Power]]. In the end, Gotenks shows that his particular personality makes him very much ''not'' cut out for saving the day, and that trying to forcibly create an all-powerful savior will not always be successful.
* DidntSeeThatComing: During his fight with Super Buu, he claims he's out of power and can't fight anymore, all for the sake of drama and to make himself look cool before pulling out Super Saiyan 3. Of course, he didn't consider that this would lead Piccolo to destroy the entry to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and trap them inside forever to ensure Buu couldn't be a threat to the world anymore.
* DrillSergeantNasty: Humorously plays up this kind of personality when instructing his Kamikaze Ghosts.
* ExplainingYourPowerToTheEnemy: While fighting Super Buu, he ends up revealing that the FusionDance only lasts for half an hour, and Trunks and Goten have to wait an hour after it ends to fuse again. After being [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomped]] by Ultimate Gohan, Super Buu uses this to his advantage by self-destructing and laying low for an hour before coming forward and baiting the two into fusing again so he can absorb Gotenks and turn the tables on Gohan.
* FailureHero: He's hyped up to be the warrior destined to save the universe from Majin Buu, but he utterly fails at doing so, getting his ass handed to him by Fat Buu and losing to Super Buu because he was too busy showboating and trying to make himself look cool. This continues into ''Super'', where he doesn't contribute anything useful whenever he appears; he gets literally spanked by Beerus, defuses before he can even throw an attack at Frieza because of his time-consuming posturing, and is curb-stomped by Copy-Vegeta's base form. It's to the extent that in the Tournament of Power, Goku and Vegeta decide right off the bat that after Gotenks [[NiceJobBreakingItHero screwed up so badly]] [[OnceDoneNeverForgotten while fighting Super Buu]], there's no way in Hell they're trusting him to try to save the world again.
* FakeUltimateHero: Due to his skewed idea of what heroism entails combined with his sheer incompetence, Gotenks never lives up to his full potential.
* FatalFlaw: His SmugSuper attitude and determination to make himself look cool no matter what. If Gotenks had just taken Buu seriously from the start, he could have killed him in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Instead, he had to show-off, which led to a chain-of-events that got everyone on the Lookout killed and gave Buu time to think of a plan to counter Gohan. Thus, Goku and Vegeta refuse to even consider letting him on Team Universe 7 for the Tournament of Power.
* FearlessFool: Like Vegeta, Gotenks is very arrogant and charges into battle with enemies he can't defeat. This is played straight in his first appearance, when he tries to rush into battle with Majin Buu, and gets his ass handed to him.
* GenreSavvy: [[PlayingWithATrope Played with]] and PlayedForLaughs. Gotenks is fully aware that he is in a Shonen. However, instead of using the medium to his advantage, he instead chooses to play ''every'' Shonen cliche straight for the sake of drama: long power-ups, holding back his true power, trash talking, HeroicSecondWind, and NewPowersAsThePlotDemands. Unfortunately, he is fighting Super Buu, [[NoNonsenseNemesis who doesn't like to play by the 'rules'.]]
* HairTriggerTemper: He got Vegeta's temper, which is an off-shoot of Trunks.
* HotBlooded: Even more so than his father Vegito. Gotenks' [[{{Keet}} hyperactive youth]] and [[ArrogantKungFuGuy cocky personality]] make him very childish.
* HourOfPower: He can only stay fused for thirty minutes. He can also only maintain his Super Saiyan 3 transformation for five minutes before he reverts to his base form.
* HasTwoMommies: Though he's never around long enough to make much of it, Bulma and Chichi and Goku and Vegeta are his biological moms and dads, respectively. Played with when his moms compare which of their kids' traits he takes after.
* IdiotHero: Even more so than Goku. Combining the arrogance of Trunks and the naivety of Son Goten results in a naive and arrogant showoff-blowhard who is too busy "looking good" to save the world.
* {{Jerkass}}: As the rest of this entry shows, personality-wise Gotenks is essentially all of Trunks and Goten's worst traits combined, with few of their positive ones. Goten can be naive (especially during the Buu saga), but knows how to focus and learn from his mistakes. Trunks can be cocky, but does know his limits and when to do the right thing. Gotenks takes all the former and none of the latter, becoming an egotistical fool who can't take things seriously and never changes no matter how many times he screws up, even when lives are literally at stake.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: For all of his egotism, Gotenks ''is'' a hero in the end and ''does'' care about his friends. It's Super Buu killing the rest of the Z-Fighters and their friends on the Lookout, Bulma included, that finally gets Gotenks to [[LetsGetDangerous stop screwing around]] and try in earnest to kill Buu.
* KidHero: One of the strongest characters in ''Z'', and is the fusion of two kids who are not even 10.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: When he runs out of Super Saiyan 3 after being mere seconds from killing Super Buu, he tries to walk away.
* LargeHam: He absolutely loves being overdramatic in calling his attacks.
* LastSecondShowoff: When he is first born, he challenges Piccolo to a race to the Earth's surface from the Lookout. When Piccolo finally catches up, Gotenks informed him he had circled the Earth several times and even had time for a nap.
* LethallyStupid: Because of the rash and idiotic decisions he makes in an effort to look cool, he gets himself and Piccolo trapped in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, enables Buu to escape and eat all of his loved ones, and gets himself absorbed by Buu, allowing Buu to beat Gohan senseless. [[RealityEnsues This ends up being one of the many reasons the boys are not trusted with combat anymore, at least while they're still children, and are left behind when the Universe is on the line at the end of ''Super''.]]
* TheLoad: As powerful as he is, Gotenks becomes this due to his childish and arrogant nature, caring more about showing off and making himself look cool than actually saving the world, which bites him in the ass ''big-time'' when his goofing around just keeps making the situation worse; in this order, he gets himself and Piccolo trapped in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, enables Buu to escape and eat all of his loved ones, and gets himself absorbed by Buu, allowing Buu to beat Gohan senseless. Come the Universe Survival Saga, the rest of the Z-Fighters are well aware of this, and decide right off the bat that Gotenks is ''far'' too LethallyStupid to be trusted with anything revolving the Tournament of Power.
* LetsGetDangerous: Once he stops messing around, he pummels the living daylights out of Buu; he only failed to kill Buu because the fusion wore off at the last second.
* TheMinionMaster: With the Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack, which summons not-too-bright ghost copies of himself that explode on impact.
* MotiveDecay: When facing Buu, Trunks and Goten's desires to avenge everyone and save the day are diminished in Gotenks in favor of his desire to look good being the hero. Especially notable in the case of Goten, who swore to kill Buu for killing his mother the last time he saw him.
* MulticoloredHair: Trunks' purple hair on the sides, Goten's dark hair up the middle.
* NakedPeopleAreFunny: In the episode "Celebrations with Majin Buu" he runs around naked, being chased by Chi-Chi after Goku blows up the bathtub.
* NaughtyIsGood: He is the fusion of two children, so it's to be expected.
* TheNapoleon: Powerful and the shortest main character (save for Goten and Trunks obviously) at the end of ''Z''.
* NeverMyFault: When Piccolo, fooled by Gotenks' goofing off and hamming up, blows up the entry door to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, trapping them in together, Gotenks furiously chews him out on it and accuses him of jumping the gun; never mind the fact that, as Piccolo points out, Gotenks kept screwing around and making a game out of the battle.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: If he just took Buu seriously from the start, he could have killed him in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Instead, he had to show-off, which led to a chain-of-events that got everyone on the Lookout killed and gave Buu time to think of a plan to counter Gohan. His arrogance allowed him to be provoked by Buu to merge, instead of letting Gohan go and finish the job, which gets him absorbed. As of ''Super'', he other Z-Fighters have yet to forget [[OnceDoneNeverForgotten how badly Gotenks screwed up back then]] and adamantly refuse to even consider letting him fight in the Tournament of Power.
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: During the Buu Saga, Gotenks was hyped up to be the hero who would defeat Majin Buu and save the world, but he utterly ''failed'' to do so, getting his ass handed to him by Fat Buu and losing to Super Buu because he was more concerned with showboating and trying to make himself look cool. By the time of ''Super'', the rest of the Z-Fighters have decided that Gotenks is too immature and LethallyStupid to be relied upon for anything; come the Tournament of Power, they tell Goten and Trunks point-blank that they're ''not'' on the team because the last time they depended on Gotenks to save the world, he completely screwed up and nearly got everyone killed.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: He's one of the strongest beings in the universe and one of the shortest since he is the fusion of two pre-teens. Unfortunately for everyone, being a fusion of two [[BrattyHalfPint children]] also makes him one of the dumbest beings in the universe.
* RealityEnsues: While Gotenks was one of the strongest fighters when he was first introduced, because he is the FusionDance of the spoiled Trunks and naive Goten, his immaturity stops him from actually ever achieving anything meaningful. For example, after training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, the two decide to spend time creating AwesomeButImpractical attacks overspending the remaining amount of time left to train, resulting in many of their attacks doing nothing to Super Buu. They even hold Super Saiyan 3 back to act heroic, which causes things to get worse because they didn't account for Piccolo having a GodzillaThreshold: destroying the doorway leading back, trapping them inside. This is further shown in the ''Super'' version of ''Resurrection "F"'' as, despite Frieza being in his first form and easily defeatable, all Gotenks did was fly around the world multiple times just to headbutt Tagoma in the groin. When focused on Frieza himself, his grandstanding lead to his fusion running out.
** This also permanently stains Goten and Trunks' reputation amongst the Z-Fighters; in ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'', during the Tournament of Power, [[OnceDoneNeverForgotten the boys are told outright they won't be taken on the team because the last time Gotenks was relied upon, he completely screwed things up]]. They also point out that the two are not skilled enough in battle and would be easily knocked out by more skilled fighters, so they go with WeakButSkilled fighters who can compensate their weak power with skill and strategy.
* RedBaron: The Grim Reaper Of Justice.
* SignatureMove: Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack
* ShooOutTheClowns: Gotenks and his components for all their power are LockedOutOfTheLoop by Goku, Vegeta and Gohan for the Universe Survival arc, on the grounds that they are only useful fused and are too unpredictable, thickheaded and irresponsible to be trusted with any of it after [[LethallyStupid what happened with Super Buu]]. [[spoiler:And when Buu falls asleep after a sparring match with Goku, and the other Universe 7 fighters desperately need someone to fill his place, they choose ''[[AxCrazy Frieza]]'' instead. Hell, even '''''[[ButtMonkey Yamcha]]''''' AND '''''[[FakeUltimateHero Mr. Satan]]''''' were considered over Gotenks.]]
* SkewedPriorities: He deliberately drags out the fight with Super Buu for the sake of drama and showing off.
* SkunkStripe: Has Trunks' purple hair with Goten's black hair outlining it.
* SmugSuper: As much of a snot-nosed brat as he is, he was the heroes' best chance at beating Buu at the time and he nearly did. Once he got serious and stopped fooling around, he was close to killing Buu, but his fusion broke. The cockiness is usually a FatalFlaw for him, though, frequently getting him spanked around and embarrassed by stronger enemies.
* ThisIsUnforgivable: Gotenks repeatedly refused to take Super Buu seriously, even after Chi-Chi, the mother of one of his fusees, is killed by the monster. It isn't until Buu breaks out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and kills everyone else on the lookout, including Bulma, the mother of his other fusee, that Gotenks [[LetsGetDangerous finally decides to stop screwing around]], declaring he'll make Buu pay for what he's done.
* TookALevelInBadass: When he reached [=SSJ3=] and began to take his battle with Buu more seriously. He went from being barely a match against Buu, to overpowering him.
* TookALevelInDumbass: Both of his parts can be foolish if not self-destructive at times, but not when it really counts, and both know when they've gone too far. Gotenks doesn't.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Son Goten was not an egotist; all that arrogant and overconfident traits therefore all comes from Trunks.
He thinks it's better to show off than actually saving people and most of his techniques fall into AwesomeButImpractical.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: His screwing around and faking being weak for the sake of showing off ends up causing Piccolo to destroy the doorway to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, which leads to Buu escaping and killing everyone left on Kami's Lookout.
* TheWorfEffect:
** Poor guy gets his ass handed to him by Beerus in ''Battle of Gods'' and its arc in ''Super'' in such a casual way that it is literally treated as a joke both times, while also establishing how strong Beerus is.
** In ''Super'', Copy-Vegeta, who is just as strong as regular Vegeta, [[NoSell no-sells]] all his attacks and knocks him out of his fusion form in just a couple of hits. And he did it in his ''base form'', which is admittedly god-enhanced at this point.
* WrongGenreSavvy: During his fight with Super Buu, Gotenks intentionally [[IAmNotLeftHanded starts off in his base form]] because he feels that [[LampshadeHanging a hero should only show his true powers when backed into a corner.]]

!!Gotenks' Kamikaze Ghosts
Mischievous, ghostly manifestations of Gotenks' ki created by his bizarre signature move, the Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack.
----
* ActionBomb: As their name implies, they blindly fly into their designated target and explode.
* AwesomeButImpractical: The Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack is probably the most unique and creative usage of ki seen in the series, but Vegito points out that the move has a fatal weakness: the Ghosts explode on contact, so simple ki blasts can destroy them before they even get close to their target. It doesn't help that the Ghosts literally have minds of their own and can even accidentally destroy each other.
* ExpendableClone: The whole point of the Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack is to send the little guys to their deaths, but other characters are more concerned with the practical issues the attack poses rather than the ethical ones. Don't worry, it's all played for BlackComedy.
* EyelidPullTaunt: They usually are seen gurning like this or in similarly childish ways.
* LethallyStupid: In the Time Chamber, two of them mess around and accidentally blow each other up.
* MadeOfExplodium: They explode upon even the slightest physical contact, including with each other.
* OurGhostsAreDifferent: Don't be fooled by the name. Their ghostly appearances is just a stylistic choice by Gotenks for RuleOfCool. They are not undead spirits but weird, semi-sentient manifestations of Gotenks' ki that explode on contact.
* RefugeInAudacity: Their attack to surprise Super Buu? Distract him and lure him close by pretending there's some candy on the floor, and then jumping on him.
* SuicideAttack: Their whole reason for existence.
* WhatMeasureIsAMook: PlayedForLaughs. They may not count as "proper" beings, but they are independent, sentient ''things'' and nobody has any qualms about Gotenks sending them to their deaths.

The [[FusionDance combined form]] of Goku and Vegeta, using the Potara Earrings. A long-awaited combination and ''the'' most powerful character in the original manga and ''Z'' series. And then [[BalefulPolymorph he got turned into a coffee candy]]. And he ''still'' kicks ass. HilarityEnsues.
----
* TheAce: The fusion of two super-powerful Saiyan warriors could only result in this. He effortlessly kicks Super Buu around before letting himself get turned into candy to free his comrades. The only point in their battle where he has to put any effort in at all is when Buu is literally tearing the entire universe apart with his screams, and even then it was only some minor strain. [[spoiler:He was also the only being short of Future Trunks absorbing the energy of every living being on the planet (including Goku and Vegeta) to actually have the ability to best Fused Zamasu, a fellow Potara Fusion]]. Considering he's made up of Goku and Vegeta, two of the best fighters in their universe, it was only natural.
* AdaptationalBadass:
** In the manga, he immediately goes to Super Saiyan to curbstomp Buu. In the anime, he was effortlessly overpowering him in his normal state and only turned Super Saiyan [[ItAmusedMe for the heck of it]]. ''Dragon Ball Kai'' takes the midway, showing that Vegito can overpower Buu in base, but that he has to put enough effort into it to make him go Super Saiyan, allowing him to completely demolish Buu.
** In the ''Super'' manga. [[spoiler:When fighting Fused Zamasu in the anime, Vegito was able to fight evenly with him, though Fused Zamasu was able to get some solid hits in, and Vegito had to actually get serious. In the manga, Vegito easily overpowered Fused Zamasu and was effortlessly toying with him, with Shin outright comparing him to [[PhysicalGod Beerus]]. Of course, the "debatably" part is that Fused Zamasu himself is [[AdaptationalWimp much weaker in raw power]] in the manga then in the anime.]]
** The Xeno version from ''Dragon Ball Heroes'' is generally shown to be more competent and powerful than his canon version, up to Super Saiyan 4 Vegito being noticeably stronger than Super Saiyan Blue Vegito.
* AlwaysABiggerFish: Vegito himself is usually the bigger fish, being a last resort used by Goku and Vegeta that so far, on both canonical occasions, has succeeded in overwhelming foes the two could not defeat individually. He, or rather his "main" timeline version, is on the receiving end of this trope in ''Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Prison Planet'' however, actually [[spoiler:losing to Cumber]] while his "Xeno" version is this to [[spoiler:Cumber, with Super Saiyan 4 Xeno Vegito defeating him]][[labelnote: spoiler note]]Worth noting that Xeno Vegito faced Super Saiyan 3 Cumber whereas "main" Vegito faced Golden Great Ape Cumber.[[/labelnote]]
* ArchEnemy: Super Buu, with Vegito being born ''specifically'' to deal with the monster.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Not as bad as most characters as he is more light-hearted, but still is very cocky and loves his incredible strength. His constant taunting is his favorite tactic, as he is shown to enjoy making light of the situations as this exploits the enemy's weakness, as shown with Super Buu and Zamasu, as they crack under pressure when they are outclassed.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Similar to Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, Vegito at Super Saiyan Blue drains his fusion time drastically, reducing it from one hour to minutes before he split apart again.
** The Super Saiyan 4 version shown on ''Super Dragon Ball Heroes'' has a similar drawback.
** Note that this trope was originally ''averted''. Prior to a retcon, the potara earrings were specifically stated to last forever (this was acknowledged to be both a blessing and a curse). Coupled with Goku and Vegeta having mastered the super saiyan form, Super Vegito had no time limit ''or'' stamina issues to worry about - essentially taking all the advantages of Gotenks with none of the downsides.
* BadassBoast: After Super Buu turns him into a candy.
--> '''Vegito''': "I'm no ordinary candy -- I'm a jawbreaker! The strongest piece of candy there is!" (The "jawbreaker" is only part of his boast; he is actually turned into a coffee candy, noted both in the English dub and Japanese original.)
* BalefulPolymorph: He was turned into candy by Buu. Not that it stopped him from kicking Buu's ass anyway.
* BarrierWarrior: He made a ki barrier around to protect himself from being properly absorbed by Buu.
* BattleCry: In most of his appearances, whether games or series, Vegito's first line upon the Potara fusion completing successfully is an excited ''"All right!!"''. Given [[StoryBreakerPower what]] [[TheAce usually]] [[IShallTauntYou follows]], this might also qualify as a PreAssKickingOneLiner.
* BeyondTheImpossible: What he is tasked with accomplishing during his fights with Super Buu and Fused Zamasu, respectively.
** Super Buu had already absorbed both of Goku's children Gohan and Goten, Vegeta's son Trunks, and Piccolo, meaning he was far stronger than even a Super Saiyan 3 (as Gohan alone surpassed Super Saiyan 3 at the time). Also, like Majin Buu, Super Buu's Magical Regeneration was so strong that he could recover from being atomized. Vegito had to not only overpower this foe but try to destroy him without killing his friends. Vegito beats Super Buu so badly that the Majin just stops regenerating, implying that the punsihment was overwhelming his HealingFactor. Vegito ultimately decides to forego victory in favor of being absorbed and freeing his friends.
** Zamasu had perfect immortality, but fusing with a mortal has technically made the immortality imperfect (albeit still extremely powerful). Gowasu notes that Goku and Vegeta might be able to overcome the fusion if they hit it with power far in excess of what they've used so far (which goes up to and includes Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken). Also, unlike Vegito, Fused Zamasu has no time limit to his fusion. Vegito delivers several beatings to Zamasu, impales him, and blows him up with a Final Kamehameha, but ultimately defuses before he can land a Savage Strike due to overloading the Potaras. However, the damage he inflicted to Zamasu is so severe that Trunks, after absorbing the remaining energy of everyone on Earth, is able to completely destroy Zamasu's body.
** Vegito has a slightly less difficult role to play against Fused Zamasu in the manga, as the latter fusion has a time limit as well - meaning Vegito must simply hold him back until Zamasu defuses. Vegito does so with great ease, blowing half of Zamasu away and tearing his arms off while showing little to no fatigue. Unfortunately, the fusion ends prematurely before Vegito can obliterate Fused Zamasu with a Final Kamehameha.
* {{BFS}}: His [[Manga/YuYuHakusho Spirit Sword]]/''Ki no Tsurugi'' attack.
* BoisterousBruiser: Vegito very much enjoys a good fight and has a very cocky attitude.
* BoringButPractical: Compared to the Fusion Dance, Potara Earrings are much easier to use without any fear of a failed fusion.
* BloodKnight: Vegito enjoys fighting as a result of a very prideful Vegeta and an enthusiastic Goku. This is remarkably shown when he constantly provokes and taunts his opponents to do better so he can at least have a decent challenge.
* BringIt: In both the fights he has been in so far, he's goaded his opponents into attacking
** Against Super Buu, Vegito rebuked Buu's BreakingSpeech
-->'''Super Buu:''' We have such great titles now, don't we? Super Buu, Super Vegito, we might as well say we're invincible. But let's not forget the stats: You have two Saiyans, and I have three, not to mention a Namek.
-->'''Vegito:''' It's quality, not quantity my friend, and our union wasn't achieved by kidnapping. But if you're sure you can win this fight with petty theft... ''come prove it!''
** Against a monologuing Fused Zamasu, his first action was to tell him to TalkToTheFist. His second?
-->'''Vegito:''' [[{{Troll}} Sorry to be rude, but you left yourself completely open.]] ''Now come on and give me your best shot''.
* TheBusCameBack: After ''twenty-one years'' (not counting spin-offs and video game adaptations), he makes a triumphant return in ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'' to take on the power of Fused Zamasu.
* CameBackStrong: In ''Super'', because of Goku and Vegeta becoming {{Physical Gods}}, he has their combined ability to become Super Saiyan Blue.
* CaptainErsatz: Of ''Gogeta''. As Creator/AkiraToriyama mentions in [[http://www.kanzenshuu.com/translations/daizenshuu-6-akira-toriyama-super-interview/ an interview]], he wanted Goku and Vegeta to fuse, but didn't want to step on the toes of ''Fusion Reborn'', which was already in development at the time. He took the earrings that Shin had been wearing all along, changed the way the fusion worked (melded outfit vs. fancy vest; composite vs. original attacks), and Vegito was born. Toriyama did later sketch Gogeta for the movie DVD box set in Japan, though.
* CatchPhrase: {{Subverted|Trope}}. Vegito's "Yosha!" ("Alright!") is the first line he said in the anime and manga, but that's it. It is used in most, if not all, of his video game appearances, making it his most iconic line in the franchise. The line returns when Vegito makes his comeback in ''Super''.
* CombinationAttack: Bit of an odd one in that he can perform combination attacks by himself since he is technically two people, but the ''Final Kamehameha'' is, as the name implies, a combination of Vegeta's Final Flash and Goku's Kamehameha, combining the power of the former with the rapid deployability of the latter.
* CompositeCharacter:
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Turns the strongest form of Majin Buu into his play thing for several episodes. He also gained the upper hand during the last leg of his fight with [[spoiler:Fused Zamasu]] and was pretty much using him as a punching bag before his time limit expired very prematurely.
* DeadpanSnarker: If snarking works as part of his IShallTauntYou, then snark he will!
--> '''Vegito''': "Hey, that was a bright idea using the Kamehameha wave, Buu. Yeah, and then that Gallick Gun? ''Woah..'' yeah, I could have been ''killed!''" ({{Beat}}) "Hmm.. Maybe I am exaggerating a ''little'' bit, but I could at least have gotten a bruise, or a little cut, or..."
** And much later, against Fused Zamasu...
--> '''Vegito''': "You think you're the only one who can manage [[LaserBlade that little trick]]? ... Oh, I'm sorry, is this ''hurting'' you? Aren't you [[NotSoInvincibleAfterAll invincible]]?"
* FatalFlaw: [[SmugSuper Arrogance]]. It's what you get when you combine Vegeta's {{Pride}} and Goku's love for a [[BloodKnight good fight]].
** Downplayed in his fight with Super Buu, however, as taunting and showboating was actually part of his strategy; he wasn't going for the kill. A case could be made for his fight with Fused Zamasu, as he does spend a few seconds talking trash and then his fusion runs out prematurely.
* GeniusBruiser: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. While Vegito is by no means a [[ThisAintRocketSurgery rocket surgeon]], he ''is'' an unparalleled fighter not just because of his power, but because his two halves are a GeniusDitz whose area of specialty is fighting, and a WarriorPrince who's shown time and again to be extremely cunning when he needs to be. Combined, this gives him essentially two lifetimes of different fighting experience, and he can use this experience and knowledge to adapt to his opponent on the fly. In his fight against Super Buu, he chastises Buu for thinking he can outwit him with an attack thought up by two children, and when Buu has the bright idea to reduce the visibility of the area he is in, Vegito beats him with his eyes closed because has plenty of experience with sensing Ki-energy. In his fight against [[spoiler:Fused Zamasu]], it is also noteworthy that after it becomes apparent [[spoiler:Fused Zamasu]] is matching him in brute strength through a PunchParry, Vegito immediately switches from relying on strength to avoiding-and-countering and from that point on [[spoiler:Fused Zamasu]] doesn't manage to even land a punch, although the fact the latter was constantly getting additional body mass probably wasn't helping.
* GodzillaThreshold: Due to being told that Potara Fusion was permanent[[note]]it is, but only for Kais. Non-Kais separate after an hour, less if they use up too much energy[[/note]] -- and [[ProudWarriorRaceGuy Goku and Vegeta]] really not wanting to [[HonorBeforeReason rely on something that isn't their own hard-earned strength]] -- the idea of fusing together is not given a ''single'' thought before the GodzillaThreshold is crossed. Even then, expect neither to relish it. Such was the case with Super Buu [[note]]Who had already absorbed most of their families whom would be consigned to a FateWorseThanDeath if Buu won, on top of the whole ApocalypseHow situation[[/note]] and [[spoiler:Fused Zamasu[[note]]another Potara Fusion consisting of a PhysicalGod with CompleteImmortality and a EvilCounterpart to Goku[[/note]]]].
--> '''Goku:''' It's time Vegeta, we're going to fuse [[spoiler:just like them]]!\\
'''Shin:''' Excellent idea! I thought you'd ruled that out.[[note]]No one had said anything to the tune of 'We're not going to fuse', since before the fight with Kid Buu, but the implicit understanding was that it wasn't going to happen again, ever.[[/note]]\\
'''Vegeta:''' ''Damn right we ruled that out!'' There's no way I'm doing that again!\\
'''Goku:''' I don't like it any more than you do Vegeta, but if we still need a major boost in power to break down his body, then it's the best chance we've got! Come on, you've gotta admit I'm right about this.
* GoodCounterpart:
** In many ways, he's Super Buu's {{foil}}, being the result of a voluntary fusion to contrast Buu's forcefully absorbing victims. He's also just as arrogant as Buu, which drives the demon up the wall.
** In a more literal sense, to [[Characters/DragonBallZamasu Fused Zamasu.]] Both are fusions, but while Zamasu is a SmugSnake, who loves to boast how great he is, and his fusion took away his immortality [[BodyHorror with half his body being reduced to a body horror]], Vegito is a cocky, SmugSuper who combines the greatest attributes of both Goku and Vegeta with no setbacks. [[spoiler:OK, except for his time limit, which was reduced to how much energy it cost to stay fused.]]
* GuileHero: Him manipulating Super Buu and frustrating him into acting desperately was ''the main plan'' to saving his sons, friend and the whole universe.
* HorrifyingTheHorror: Being the fusion of Vegeta and Goku, Vegito has this built into his very being. By the time Buu decides to absorb him, he puts the fear of god into Super Buu.
* HourOfPower: In ''Super'', it's revealed Potara fusions only last for one hour when both of the fusees are non-Kais, less depending on how much power the fusion uses. It's telling that this is the only thing that prevented him from obliterating [[spoiler:Fused Zamasu's physical body.]]
* ILetYouWin: Vegito allows Super Buu to absorb him so he can infiltrate his body and pull out the victims he consumed.
* IShallTauntYou: Vegito loves to toy with his enemies, knowing full well he's [[SmugSuper many times stronger]] and they [[NighInvulnerable can't harm him]].
** During the fight with Buu, he stalls finishing Buu off and instead goes to great lengths to anger Buu. He beats Buu senseless, all the while he's mocking and insulting him. All part of his plan.
** [[spoiler:In his fight with Fused Zamasu, Vegito constantly rubs Zamasu's failing god-hood in his face.]]
* KamehameHadouken: Being a combination of Goku and Vegeta, Vegito has access to all their attacks and can even combine them as he wishes for one-man {{Combination Attack}}s. In particular, he seems fond beams shot from the flat-handed pose of Vegeta's Big Bang attack, and combining Goku's Kamehameha with Vegeta's Final Flash for a rapidly deployable bright-blue beam with golden energy crackling across its surface.
* KiManipulation: Aside from the {{Combination Attack}}s of his components, Vegito has more than his fair share of unique {{Ki Manipulation}}s - like his 'Banshee blast', a five-fingered explosive-orb hurling attack; his Spirit Sword, a multi-meter long BFS capable of stabbing through rocks, dirt, magical beings, and gods; and multiple variations of ki-enhanced punches.
* LimitedWardrobe: In ''Super'' Vegito's wears the exact same outfit he wore in ''Z'', despite the fact that Goku and Vegeta are both wearing different outfits in the ''Future Trunks Saga'' (Goku's gi has his kanji on the front and on the back, while Vegeta wears his Cell Saga outfit), which begs the question why it didn't turn out any different.
** Subverted on his appearances in ''Super Dragon Ball Heroes'' where his outfit changes accordingly based on what Goku and Vegeta are wearing at the moment of fusing.
* LostInTranslation: His name is meant to be a combination between '''Vege'''ta and Kakaro'''tto'''. In non-Japanese versions, where Goku's Saiyan name was transliterated as Kakarot (besides the Spanish ones, which retain the Japanese name), the origin of Vegito's name becomes a DubInducedPlotHole. Some fans assume that the "o" at the end originates from the "o" in "Goku".
* MorphicResonance: A special characteristic of his is that this strength doesn't change even if his shape does.
* NoPronunciationGuide: In English, it's pronounced Vegito as "Ve-JEE-To". In Japanese, it's supposed to be "VE-jitto"; the second E is short, since Vegetto's contains the ッ sokuon from Kakarotto, which explains the double consonant in both of their Japanese names.
* NoSell: Barring Buu's absorbing technique, EVERYTHING. And if he didn't plan on getting absorbed to free the others he probably would have dealt with that too. [[spoiler:Fused Zamasu, on the other hand, is in a different ballpark altogether, to the point Vegito actually has to put effort into winning and dodging attacks to avoid damage]].
* PhysicalGod: He was already this, being the strongest character in the manga, surpassing the power of literal gods, and easily toying with the strongest form of Majin Buu as a normal Super Saiyan. However, he literally becomes a god in ''Super'' since Goku and Vegeta now have god forms.
* {{Revision}}: In ''Z'', Old Kai explains that Potara fusion is permanent. Goku and Vegeta only managed to unfuse due to some unexplained side-effect of being inside Buu's body, though Goku was only speculating on that point. In ''Super'', Gowasu reveals that Potara fusion is only permanent for Kais, while mortals remain fused for an hour under normal conditions (Super Saiyan Blue Vegito gets about ten minutes out of it because of how much power he used).
* ShaggyDogStory: The whole reason he wanted to get absorbed was so that he could destroy Buu without his absorbed victims dying. But this just led to Buu taking on his most deadly form, who then proceeded to kill all of them anyway along with the planet. As a bonus, his messing around took up the hour he could remain fused, resulting in him splitting back into Goku and Vegeta, who are ''much'' weaker. Of course, it doesn't make the hero look good if he's ''directly'' responsible for the death of his friends/children, even when DeathIsCheap.
* ShowyInvincibleHero: It quickly becomes very clear that Buu has no chance of killing him, even though Vegito isn't fighting at full strength, and yet the fight is still oh so entertaining to watch. And he's well aware of it.
--> '''Vegito''': "No, really! That was an awesome attack! I could have been killed. *{{beat}}* Well, maybe I am exaggerating a little bit. I could have at least gotten a bruise, or a little cut, or..."
** Averted once he forms to face-off with [[spoiler:Fused Zamasu]], as he knows he has a time limit and he's fighting [[spoiler:a fellow Potara Fusion with immortality,]] which ups the difficulty factor. Unlike Super Buu, [[spoiler:Fused Zamasu actually puts up a decent fight before his failing immortality starts to wear him down.]]
* ShutUpHannibal: He pulls this off epically against [[spoiler:Fused Zamasu]] during ''Super'', punching him out while he's in the midst of yet another EvilGloating session and telling him point-blank that he's sick of listening to his speeches:
-->'''Vegito''': Sorry to be rude, but you left yourself completely open. [[BringIt Now come on and give me your best shot]]; I'm tired of listening to you preach. [[DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu If you want me bowed at your feet, you'll have to do it by force]].
* SignatureMove: Final Kamehameha and Beam Sword Slash. The Final Kamehameha was originally used by Gogeta in ''Ultimate Battle 22'' and the ''Butouden'' games, but later became Vegito's signature move from ''Final Bout'' onwards. It later became canon in ''Anime/DragonBallSuper''.
* SimpleYetAwesome: Unlike Gotenks whose moves are showy but impractical, Vegito being created from two experienced fighters allows him to use techniques that extremely useful and incredibly flashy.
* SmugSuper: He was the most powerful being in existence, prior to Beerus showing up, and he's ''very'' well aware of it. Unlike Gotenks though, it never gets in the way of accomplishing his goals.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: "Vegetto" (Bandai's spelling) or "Vegito" (Funimation's spelling)? Neither one makes sense in most English adaptations, since his name is a portmanteau of Vegeta's name with Goku's Saiyan name, which is commonly romanized as "Kakarot" instead of the literal "Kakarotto". Viz attempted to reconcile this by changing his name to Vegerot in the English manga, but then they changed it back to Vegetto in the Viz Big reprint.
* StoryBreakerPower: He is the strongest character in both the manga and ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' (not including ''GT'' and ''Super''). Old Kai states that Potara Fusion is stronger than Fusion Dance (Gogeta, although it is unknown if he was referring to the fused fighter or the fact Potara fusion has no drawbacks). [[spoiler:It says a lot that he ''only'' returns when the heroes are faced with Fused Zamasu, one of the few beings in existence who can actually give Vegito a challenge. Even then, he's only around for about 10 minutes, and during the latter half of the fight he's pretty much using Fused Zamasu as a sandbag.]] This stems from the fact that, unlike the normal method of Fusion, Goku and Vegeta don't have to be of equal power, meaning that Goku and Vegeta create a being that not only has both of their maxed powers combined, but because of their rivalry, they actually make him [[UpToEleven even more powerful!]]
* StrongAndSkilled: He is the combination two fighting geniuses. Vegeta is cunning and aggressive and Goku is a master martial artist and very resourceful with his techniques. This is the result of them working together and putting aside their pride to create the perfect fighter.
* TalkToTheFist: Don't expect TalkingIsAFreeAction to be in effect around this guy. If he is letting you talk, it's because [[YouFightLikeACow he knows he can turn it around against you]].
* ATasteOfHisOwnMedicine: He spends his entire fight with Super Buu toying with and brutalizing him, making sure the monster felt every moment of the pain and terror he dealt to Vegito's friends and all of his other victims.
-->'''Vegito''': It's not much fun being hunted down, is it, Majin Buu? Being hunted down just the way you hunted down our friends! Does it hurt?!
* TookALevelInBadass: He was already badass to begin with, able to beat Super Buu as a chew toy before separating in his body. In ''Super'', [[spoiler:with Goku and Vegeta's current power, which surpasses what Vegito was capable of during the Buu Saga, he is many times stronger than before and has the ability to become ''Super Saiyan Blue'']].
* {{Troll}}: His fight with Super Buu was basically a long session of him antagonizing and pissing off Buu into absorbing him.
* TooPowerfulToLive: If this guy had stayed around, the Buu Saga would have basically ended in five minutes. And you would've written off the main character and his main foil at the same time. The same principle applies in ''Super'', where he basically had [[spoiler:Fused Zamasu]] on the ropes and if he had lasted the hour, would have killed him, [[spoiler:though the jury's out if he would have been able to handle the EldritchAbomination Fused Zamasu's spirit turned into after his physical body was destroyed]]. ''Super'' reveals why: A FusionDance lasts 30 minutes unless the fused are knocked out or use too much power which drains their time. [[spoiler:Potara lasts a full hour to non-Kais with the same restriction of power conservation; it is only permanent to the Supreme Kais.]]
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Except in the Ocean dub, where he is voiced by Brian Drummond (Using a higher-pitched version of his Vegeta voice).
* WorldsStrongestMan: In ''Dragon Ball Z'', he is by far the strongest character and outmatches his sons and especially Buu.
* XanatosGambit: ''The entire battle'' between Vegito and Super Buu was this. It didn't matter what Super Buu threw at Vegito as he had a backup plan or counter strategy for anything. Any outcome in that fight would have suited Vegito, if Super Buu turns Vegito into candy, Vegito still retains his power, as he is much stronger than Super Buu, and it just makes Vegito a harder target to destroy, if Super Buu absorbs Vegito then it becomes easier for Vegetto to remove his sons and friends from Super Buu's body and depower him and if Super Buu tries to kill Vegito... Vegito would instantly slaughter him. Of course, while that option would be just as effective, it would have been personally immoral for Vegito as he would be unconsciously murdering his own sons and friends. And while they could be brought back to life with the Dragon Balls, Vegito would still have somewhat of a heavy conscience for what he did.
* YouFightLikeACow: Most well known for this. He combines Goku's sense of humour with Vegeta's arrogance and sense of humour, to both beat and mock the living daylights out of Super Buu. [[BatmanGambit Of course, this is all part of his plan]]: getting Buu pissed off and desperate enough to absorb him, so he can free everyone absorbed by Buu. [[spoiler:He does this a few times with Fused Zamasu, but not as much.]]

The combined form of Goku and Vegeta using the FusionDance. He debuted in non-canon sources - ''Fusion Reborn'' as a last ditch effort to defeat Janemba, and ''GT'' as a rather goofy Super Saiyan 4 to fight against Omega Shenron - yet remained one of the more powerful characters seen in the series, as expected of a counterpart to Vegito.

----
* TheAce:
** During all of his appearances, he has always clearly outmatched his opponent.
*** In ''Fusion Reborn'', he was able to instantly defeat Janemba with a single ki attack using just Super Saiyan.
*** In ''Dragon Ball GT'', his Super Saiyan 4 form is able to strike so fast Omega Shenron can't even see the blows. He effortlessly deflects the Negative Karma Ball and converts it entirely into positive karma to remove Omega Shenron's influence over the Earth, and his 100x Big Bang Kamehameha brings the dragon to the brink of collapse after just a single hit.
*** [[spoiler:During his canon appearance in ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'', Gogeta is able to overpower Broly's Super Saiyan form, which was already too much for both Goku and Vegeta in Super Saiyan Blue to handle. When he faces Broly's full power using Super Saiyan Blue, Gogeta is able to overwhelm Broly with back-to-back ki blasts and rush attacks, even effortlessly dodging a blast from Broly at one point.]]
** He is also the ace relative to all the other Fusion characters in the series, as he is the only one to actually defeat his opponent, [[spoiler:both in canon and non-canon appearances]]. Vegito, Gotenks, and Kefla both de-fused before winning their battles (with the latter seeming to de-fuse due to the power of an attack she was hit with), while Gogeta actually defeated Janemba [[spoiler:and Broly]] by himself. [[spoiler:His canon appearance has also demonstrated more power than all other Fusions due to being the most-recently formed, thus drawing his power from stronger individuals (Goku and Vegeta after the Tournament of Power) than those seen previously (Goten and Trunks, Caulifla and Kale, and Goku and Vegeta during the Buu and Future Trunks Sagas.)]]
* AdaptationDyeJob: Gogeta's canonical debut in the series brings him with a color scheme closer to how Gotenks looks, as opposed to his original design colors (orange, black, white, blue), along with Vegeta's mild tan skin color instead of Goku's lighter one. This change however is better aligned with the narrative that the creators of this fusion, the Metamoran, were said to look the exact same once fused, thus the first fusion seen, Gotenks, is supposed to be the base of how all fusions in the Metamoran method should look like, with original color deviations and extra pieces of clothing being made by Toei and Bandai just to look different and be more merch-friendly. Of course, given how Super Saiyan Blue works, one could also say his canon appearance features a blue-haired dye job in his strongest form, rather than the red hair sported previously in Super Saiyan 4.
Super Saiyan Broly dominates both Saiyans at their post Tournament of Power levels without issue. This form is about equal to Super Saiyan Gogeta. But considering how much stronger Blue is than Super Saiyan (Blue is just superior to Wrathful Broly, who no-selled a punch from a Super Saiyan God, which is a form capable of lasting against a restrained Beerus, who took out Super Saiyan 3, 500 times stronger than Super Saiyan, with one move), it's probably to safe to say that if Gogeta isn't out and out stronger than either Jiren or UI Goku, he's at least somewhere around their level.[[/note]] Plus by virtue of how strong Goku and Vegeta have become since the Future Trunks Saga, he is inherently stronger than his Potara counterpart in his last appearance]].
* AllYourPowersCombined: Like Vegito, he has access to any and all techniques known by the individuals who fused to create him, even if only one of them knows the technique. In [[spoiler:''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'']], he demonstrates mastery of Instant Transmission and can use the Kamehameha. His video game appearances usually have Big Bang Kamehameha (a combination of the Super Kamehameha and Big Bang Attack) as his signature move.
** Despite not actually being shown using them (usually because he's so strong he doesn't have to), this also means he has access to techniques like Galick Gun, Final Flash, Solar Flare, the Afterimage Technique, and the Spirit Bomb.
** He can also access all transformation techniques known by Goku and Vegeta -- he's been shown using Super Saiyan, [[spoiler:Super Saiyan Blue]], and the non-canon Super Saiyan 4 in ''Dragon Ball GT'', but also technically has access to Kaio-ken x20, Super Saiyan 2, 3 and [[spoiler:God, Super Saiyan Blue Evolution and Blue Kaio-ken x20]]. Despite his short time limit, the fact he's never had to go beyond Super Saiyan [[spoiler:Blue]] (and easily dealt with an opponent that was too much for [[spoiler:Super Saiyan Blue Goku ''and'' Vegeta using just Super Saiyan)]] speaks volumes of his strength if he ever decided to go out.
** ZigZagged in his appearance in [[spoiler:''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'' regarding one technique in particular. He is able to use Savage Strike, a punch coated in Godly Ki, which was first used by his Potara counterpart Vegito to try and destroy Merged Zamasu for good. The move then later appeared in Vegeta's arsenal while under the effects of Super Saiyan Blue Evolution, using the move to punch through Top's Hakai sphere. Unlike Vegito and Vegeta, however, Gogeta actually lands the attack on his opponent directly, hitting Broly four times before the last hit paralyzes Broly in place.]]
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: [[spoiler: In ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'', he's this to Broly. While they appear evenly matched at first, Gogeta's Super Saiyan Blue quickly outclasses Broly. Broly's mindless rage means he can't land a single hit on Gogeta, but making things worse is that in clashes of power Gogeta shows that he is surpasses Broly in terms of power as well.]]
* ATasteOfPower: Due to Metamoran Fusion combining and multiplying the maximum power of both people involved, while Gogeta is around Goku and Vegeta (indirectly) gain access to power surpassing that of a God of Destruction even without the use of Ultra Instinct. Of course, one the Fusion ends they revert to their original maximum power, which still somewhat falls short.
* AwesomeButImpractical: At Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta's [[HourOfPower time limit]] is extremely short. [[spoiler:And much like Vegito, it is presumably also shorter as a Super Saiyan Blue, though luckily they defeat their opponent before the energy for the Fusion gives out.]] Using powerful techniques and transformation drains the Fusion's time limit more than just staying in his base form, and presumably if he went too far it would instantly end the Fusion just as when Vegito's Final Kamehameha overloaded the Potara Earings.
* BadassBoast:
** In his debut in ''Fusion Reborn'':
---> "I am neither Goku nor Vegeta, I am Gogeta! It's over, Janemba! I've come for ''you!''"
** The original Japanese line as well:
---> "I am neither Goku nor Vegeta, I am he who will defeat you!"
** He also gets a really good one in ''VideoGame/DragonBallXenoverse''[='=]s GT Pack story campaign:
---> "I'm afraid that none of [[BigBadEnsemble your]] ambitions will be coming true! Because you will all lose here! To the epic power… of Gogeta!"
** There's also a few of his lines against [[spoiler:Broly:]]
---> [[spoiler:"We are Gogeta. Vegeta and Kakarot have merged to take Broly down."]]
---> "Haha! Now it's our turn!"
** An understated one just prior to his fight with [[spoiler:Broly:]]
---> "You stay right there, Frieza. We'll ''deal'' with you later."[[note]]What makes this a badass boast is that it's (True) Golden Frieza he's saying it to[[/note]]
* BarrierWarrior: In [[spoiler:''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'', he creates a barrier out of ki by swiping it across his face when Full Power Broly launches an attack, reflecting the attack back at him.]]
* BeyondTheImpossible: He immediately shatters the current power ceiling observed during any battle just prior to his arrival.
** In ''Fusion Reborn'', when even a Super Saiyan 3 in the Other World couldn't stand up to Janemba, Gogeta immediately kills him with one energy ball as just a Super Saiyan.
** In GT, Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Vegeta working together are virtually powerless against Omega Shenron (who himself is powered by all the Negative Energy gathered in the Dragon Balls since their very first wish), but Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta easily toys with the dragon.
** And to top it all off, in [[spoiler:''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'', Gogeta faces Super Saiyan Broly, who forced Goku and Vegeta to retreat as Super Saiyan Blues. The last time this happened, they were up against Jiren, a mortal whose power exceeded Gods of Destruction even when such a thing was thought impossible. Goku achieved the impossible and defeated Jiren using Ultra Instinct. Gogeta manages to get the job done without ever having to go above Super Saiyan Blue. His use of Savage Strike, like Vegito and Vegeta, also implies he can destroy blasts made of Destruction Energy, which ordinarily erase whatever they touch from existence.]]
* BilingualBonus: Going off by the pinyin-on'yomi name rules of Goku's name, in one form or another, the name "Gogeta" can also be said as "Wugeta" if one disregards the name solely being in katakana. Same would also apply to one of their failed fusions, Veku/Vekuu (as "Vekong").
* BloodKnight: When he appears in GT, he loves taunting Omega Shenron and fighting him. [[spoiler:Also shown in ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'', as he seems to enjoy fighting Broly, through only initially. Once Gogeta goes the offense he doesn't appear to take any joy as he's resigned to the fact that he's going to have to kill Broly.]]
* BreakoutCharacter: Gogeta's popularity is staggering and it really speaks greatly on how a one-shot character introduced in [[Anime/DragonBallZFusionReborn a non-canon film]] managed to get [[CanonImmigrant introduced back into]] the [[Anime/DragonBallGT main series]] [[Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly twice]].
* CanonForeigner: Has never appeared in a canon work like Gotenks or Vegito have[[note]]unless you count ''Anime/DragonBallGT''[[/note]]... [[spoiler:[[CanonImmigrant until]] ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'', even making reference to his fusion counterpart of Vegito upon his formation]].
* TheBusCameBack: Zigzagged. After first debuting in the non-canon movie ''Fusion Reborn'', Gogeta returns in the ''Dragon Ball GT'' as a Super Saiyan 4 to stand up to Omega Shenron. [[spoiler:Also applies to his canon introduction (and series reappearance) in ''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'', where he is seen for the first time in over a decade in the main series, being brought out to take on Broly]].
* CurbStompBattle: Deals these out like a champ. He instantly purifies and kills Janemba and hits Omega Shenron so fast he can't see what's happening, before dropping him to his knees with a Big Bang Kamehameha.
** [[spoiler:The power difference is slightly less massive against Broly as their Super Saiyan forms are somewhat in the same range and his Full Power form does have room to grow in the fight but the distance between it and Gogeta Blue are momentous. On top of this Gogeta's skill and intelligence means Broly can't land a single blow on him, with Gogeta just appearing to toy with Broly at first. When gets serious the fight consists of Gogeta subjecting Broly to a barrage of attacks without even giving him the chance to fight back.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: In the Japanese version of [[spoiler:''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'', when Frieza claims that using Fusion is an underhanded tactic after hearing about the power boost it provides, Gogeta plainly notes that Frieza is the last person who should be complaining about something being underhanded.]]
* DependingOnTheWriter: Unlike Vegeto or Gotenks, Gogeta has no consistent characterization.
** His first appearance in ''Anime/DragonBallZFusionReborn'', he is TheStoic and completely serious.
** His appearance in ''Anime/DragonBallGT'' presents him as a complete clown that doesn't take things seriously. Which was "maybe" part of his plan the whole time, yet this remains up to interpretation.
** [[spoiler:His introduction to the official timeline in ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'' presents him as a combination of the previous two, as a SmugSuper goofball not too different from Goku or Gotenks, but taking the conflict seriously.]]
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: He immediately annihilates the seemingly-unstoppable Janemba, and brings Omega Shenron to his knees in mere moments. [[spoiler:As for Broly, a warrior who causes Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta to flee even when Jiren didn't manage to scare them away, Gogeta initially deals with him in base form, before jumping to Super Saiyan for a bit more of a kick, and then completely overwhelming Full-Power Broly with just Super Saiyan Blue.]]
* DifficultButAwesome: Goku and Vegeta have great difficulty forming Gogeta, failing at least a couple times they try for the first time, as well as the dance being slow and precise compared to the rather instantaneous use of the Potara Earrings, but when they do succeed, it's sure to get the job done.
* EverythingsBetterWithRainbows: The Stardust Breaker has a rainbow color scheme and is sometimes called the Soul Punisher or Rainbow Sparkling Blast. This technique completely vaporizes Janemba, and [[spoiler:is used as an attempt by Gogeta to finally defeat Super Saiyan Full Power Broly. His Super Saiyan Blue aura in the movie is also noticeably more colorful, having more shades of purple and white, which not only makes it look more impressive, but also faintly resembles the aura provided by Ultra Instinct.]]
* FieryRedhead: Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta has red hair. Is possibly due to the combined power of both Super Saiyan 4's, but is never explained. Since he has access to all of Goku and Vegeta's techniques, he could also technically gain red hair through the use of Kaio-ken or Super Saiyan God [[spoiler:as of his canon appearance in ''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'']].
* GodzillaThreshold: Vegeta and (to a lesser extent) Goku dislike the idea of having to team up against an enemy, let alone fuse to fight them. Gogeta was first brought out against Janemba's Final Form, who was able to easily outpace Super Saiyan 3 (and as previously indicated, being in the Other World should have already been mitigating Super Saiyan 3's stamina drain, so it was likely more powerful during the movie than against Kid Buu). In ''Dragon Ball GT'', Gogeta was the absolute last resort against Omega Shenron after both Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Vegeta together were unable to defeat him. [[spoiler:During ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'', Goku and Vegeta work together using Super Saiyan Blue without much hesitation once Broly reaches just his Super Saiyan form, but are unable to do anything against him. Promotional statements for the movie suggest Broly is stronger than Jiren, and Goku himself speculates Broly may surpass Beerus in power. The lack of Potara Earrings at the moment force Goku and Vegeta to use the Metamoran Fusion Dance to have a chance at defeating Broly.]]
* HeroAntagonist: [[spoiler: Is this in ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'' to Broly's VillainProtagonist. Broly's out of control power has led to him threatening to destroy the Earth. While Gogeta initially enjoys the fight, he stops having fun when it reaches the point where he actually has to kill Broly and is thankful that Broly's death could be avoided.]]
* HorrifyingTheHorror:
** During his appearance in GT, he's the first character to break Omega's composure.
** [[spoiler:During ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'', he fights Legendary Super Saiyan Broly and beats him to a pulp so badly that near the end of their fight, when Gogeta powers up further and lunges at him again, Broly is visibly beginning to crack, his resulting counterpunch seeming less out of anger and more out of desperation than anything. When cornered and seeing Gogeta poised to kill him, Broly finally loses his nerve and is so terrified of the fusion that he’s like a deer in the headlights as Gogeta’s energy wave closes in, only being saved by a last minute wish.]]
* HourOfPower: As he is formed through Metamoran Fusion, he can only remain in existence for 30 minutes at a time, except as a Super Saiyan 4 [[spoiler:or Super Saiyan Blue]], which reduces the time limit even further. He only has ''ten minutes or less'' due to the massive power of Super Saiyan 4. [[spoiler:It is slightly less clear how Super Saiyan Blue affects his time limit, since Gogeta managed to defeat Broly in the allotted time and was never seen de-fusing on-screen, with the movie cutting to three days later. However, given that Vegito's Super Saiyan Blue Final Kamehameha overloaded the Potaras, Gogeta's time was likely reduced to some extent - either he just defeated Broly that quickly, or Goku and Vegeta's greater energy control since the Tournament of Power let him use Blue with fewer drawbacks than Vegito experienced.]]
* LightningBruiser: He's so fast he can hit an opponent multiple times ''before you see his arms move''. [[spoiler:Even in base form, Gogeta actually manages to fly between Broly's flurry of beams just like Goku did with Jiren's - except Goku had to use Ultra Instinct to jump between them. He casually swats away the remaining beams before he even decides to power up to Super Saiyan, and goes toe to toe with Broly while countering or shrugging off every attack the hulking Saiyan throws at him. When Gogeta goes Super Saiyan Blue, ''all'' of Broly's Ki attacks as a Full-Powered Super Saiyan are either deflected back or completely fail to hit him whatsoever, with Broly’s attempts to close into melee [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown invariably ending with him being beaten stupid while impotently trying to fend Gogeta off]].]]
* LikeFatherUnlikeSon: He's Goku and Vegeta's fusion through the fusion dance, which would make Gotenks his son. Whether he plays this straight or not depends on which form you mean:
** As a Super Saiyan, this is played completely straight, since as soon as Gogeta's born, he ''immediately'' crushes Janemba and practically cleanses him out of existence with his Stardust Breaker, unlike Gotenks.
** As a Super Saiyan 4, this is averted, since he's just as goofy and doesn't take things seriously like his son (though this is implied to be an act). He even defuses the instant it looks like he's about to finish the job.
** [[spoiler:When fighting Broly, he falls somewhere between his previous appearances. He doesn't waste any time striking, uses consecutive full-power attacks, and immediately jumps to a higher form when Broly begins to catch up to his current one. However, he seems to enjoy the fight itself, and displays both confidence and a sense of humor when naming himself - he spends about 20 seconds thinking of a name because he needs it to sound cool.]]
* NiceGuy: Gogeta is friendly with Piccolo upon meeting him, and when he appears before Whis, he uses honourifics in all languages where they exist just like Goku does (such as Whis-san or Senior Whis). While he doesn't hold back against Broly, he smiles during most of the fight, and even though his final attack may have killed Broly, Gogeta is surprised but glad when he sees that Broly was wished away from the battle. He even steps in to stop Frieza from killing Chilai and Lemo even though he has no idea who they are.
* NoNonsenseNemesis: In contrast to Vegito, he usually doesn't take time to bad mouth his enemies, though his appearance in GT marks a (potentially deliberate) exception. His preference for less verbal sparring is probably a consequence of the fact that he knows he can only battle for half as long as Vegito at most, due to Metamoran Fusion's tighter time limit.
** In his fight against Janemba he immediately destroyed him without letting Janemba take any chances to counterattack in some way.
** Subverted in his fight against Omega Shenron, but this ''may'' have been deliberate as part of a plan to disperse the negative energy surrounding the Earth.
** [[spoiler:In his first canonical appearance in ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly''. While he's clearly enjoying the fight, he is all business. He quickly transformed into a Super Saiyan against Super Saiyan Broly and after Broly transforms into his Legendary Super Saiyan form, Gogeta immediately transformed into Super Saiyan Blue skipping all the forms in between so that Broly can't catch up to his power like in his fight against Vegeta and Goku. Gogeta also nearly succeeded in killing Broly if it wasn't for Chirai's wish to save Broly. He ultimately defeats Broly so quickly that he has time to stop Frieza from killing Chilai and Lemo and watch him fly off; in fact, he is never actually seen defusing, with the film merely cutting to Goku three days later.]]
* OurGeniesAreDifferent: Not unlike Majin Buu, his appearance invokes the look of a djinn, particularly with respect to his Metamoran Fusion garb. He also has access to some seemingly-magical moves like the Stardust Breaker, which has a lethal effect on demons like Janemba. [[spoiler:One of his attacks during his battle against Broly also has him motion as though he is casting a spell, with him crossing his arms before swinging them upwards to summon a massive column of ki, in addition to his use of the typical Kamehameha fired directly from his hands.]]
* RapidFireFisticuffs: So rapid-fire, in fact, that you can't even see his arms move.
* RealityWarper: In Fusion Reborn. Not to the extent of Janemba, but he's so strong that his coming into existence can be felt in the world of the living.
* TheRival: Fans often speculate on who would win in a fight between him and Vegito, with different answers coming from different sources. Their pre-battle quotes in Xenoverse and Xenoverse 2 lampshade this, with Vegito questioning whether the earings or the dance provide the stronger fusion as he faces off against Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta. During several video game openings, Super Saiyan Gogeta is also shown facing off against Broly. [[spoiler:Dialed UpToEleven in ''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'', where Gogeta is the only one capable of standing up to and defeating Broly, effectively cementing their rivalry in a sort of AscendedFanon.]]
* ShowyInvincibleHero: Likes to play with his prey as a Super Saiyan 4. [[spoiler:In ''Dragon Ball Super'', he is far less conservative with using ki attacks compared to Vegito, who just used his Spirit Sword and Final Kamehameha. The sheer spectacle of his abilities is dialed way up against Broly, launching an enormous barrage of simultaneous Kamehameha beams downward, and creating a massive column of ki that completely envelops Broly and results in a huge explosion. He ultimately ends up using 3 different finishing moves on Broly to try and bring him down, and keeps increasing his power output when the previous attack falls short. He even proudly announces, "Now it's our turn!" after swatting Broly's beams aside in base form before powering up to Super Saiyan.]]
* SignatureMove: Stardust Breaker and Big Bang Kamehameha. In the games, his Super Saiyan 4 form upgrades the latter attack to 100x Big Bang Kamehameha, likely following suit after Super Saiyan 4 Goku's 10x Kamehameha. [[spoiler:While unconfirmed, the rapid-fire Kamehameha-like attack he uses in ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'' may be a revised version of his Big Bang Kamehameha, especially given that Big Bang Attack's appearance in ''Dragon Ball Super'' is a blue spherical projectile.]] He also demonstrates a few additional signature moves in [[spoiler:''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'', such as a massive Ki Beam Barrage launched from above the opponent, and an explosive pillar of Godly Ki that he summons around the opponent after paralyzing them with a Godly Ki-coated punch]].
* SimpleYetAwesome: Because of the above, Gogeta's techniques are really showy but they're also incredibly powerful and effective.
* SmugSuper: [[spoiler:After fusing, he's confident enough to take the time to pick a cool name for himself, since Vegito is already taken. During the fight with Broly he's smiling throughout most of it, and while not gabbing at his enemy like Vegito does he's prone to numerous confident smirks]]. As a Super Saiyan 4, he loves goofing off and prefers to spend time mocking Omega Shenron rather than finish him off quickly. At least, assuming that wasn't him playing things up; when actually going to eliminate Omega Shenron, he's far more serious than smug.
* SphereOfDestruction: His Stardust Breaker, a rainbow-colored ki sphere that [[DeaderThanDead completely obliterates]] Janemba from the inside out. [[spoiler:Gogeta Blue uses it against Broly, but while it doesn't kill him - because he isn't evil, like Janemba was - it's still a major blow against the Legendary Super Saiyan. Ironically, his access to the Savage Strike attack like Vegito and Vegeta means Gogeta himself can actually destroy spheres of destruction formed from the Hakai technique used by Gods of Destruction.]]
* TheStoic: His initial appearance has him as one. Still somewhat maintained in ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'' - barring him finding thinking of a name amusing, he never once messes around or wastes time once starting the fight, though his demeanor is less stoic and emotionless than it is reasonable and focused - because he is so powerful, he doesn't show much stress or concern, but he still takes his responsibilities seriously.
* StoryBreakerPower: There's a very good reason this guy's limited by time constraints; the fusion of Goku and Vegeta makes him an absurdly powerful fighter, and was capable of taking down a demon made of pure evil in ''seconds'' in his first appearance, make Omega Shenron look like a joke in ''GT'', or [[spoiler:absolutely ''demolish'' the Legendary Super Saiyan Broly]]. Regardless of how exactly he compares to Vegito's power, even before any gaps between appearances are taken into effect, Gogeta is still a monster of a character like Vegito. [[spoiler:While it is unclear how he compares to a current Vegito, it is also worth noting that Gogeta is far stronger in ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'' than Vegito was during his fight against Fused Zamasu, due to Goku and Vegeta having since powered up further. His beam clash with Broly while both were just Super Saiyans also briefly knocks them into a pocket dimension.]]
* StrongAndSkilled: He is able to draw on Goku's vast experience as a martial artist, and Vegeta's history as a warrior. He doesn't usually show too much skill due to his overwhelming power, as he elected to immediately kill Janemba, and his speed was fast enough to knock Omega Shenron around without having to even rely on feints or creating an opening. [[spoiler:However, in ''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'', his skill is on full display and ends up being more of a factor than his immense power. Even though base Gogeta is likely a bit weaker than Super Saiyan Broly, he simply dodges all of Broly's attacks instead of blasting them away. While he uses many extremely powerful attacks as a Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan Blue, he also always elects to dodge or reflect Broly's Ki Attacks back at him to minimize damage. This results in Broly getting exhausted much faster than Gogeta, even though the latter is on a literal time limit no matter what he does.]]
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Both Goku and Vegeta speak at once, creating this effect. Like Vegito, in the dub of ''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'' he refers to himself as "Us" and "We" (whereas both use the singular pronoun "Ore" in the original Japanese). He does refer to Goku and Vegeta in the third-person though, as even though he was formed through their fusion, he is still a distinct entity from them like Vegito. [[spoiler:Interestingly enough, he is actually aware of his counterpart Vegito, and actually chooses to name himself Gogeta since "Vegito" is already taken]].
* WorldsStrongestMan: Held this title for over 16 years as a Super Saiyan 4. Until ''Battle of Gods'' appeared and it shows characters that are strong enough to give him a run for his money as a Super Saiyan 4. As of [[spoiler:''Dragon Ball Super: Broly'', Gogeta is once again by far the strongest mortal character in the series, if not stronger than the Gods of Destruction, as he is formed from the fusion of Goku and Vegeta after the Tournament of Power.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: He plays an integral part in the endgame of ''Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly'', being used as a last resort by Goku and Vegeta that successfully manages to defeat Broly.
* YouFightLikeACow: While he's confidently stoic in ''Fusion Reborn'', as a Super Saiyan 4 in ''GT'', he's a complete goof and seems more interested in mocking Omega than in actually fighting him. Much like Vegito this is a ploy to piss off Omega enough to give him the opportunity to get rid of all the negative karma enveloping the Earth. After doing just that, he tries to kill Omega immediately afterwards. [[HourOfPower Too bad he thought he had more than ten minutes to work with, however.]]

--> ''"Piece of cake! Damn it feels good to be a Saiyan!"''

The Potara fusion between Kale and Caulifla.
------
* AdaptationalWimp: Kefla in the anime is one of the three strongest fighters in the entire Tournament of Power, with Goku needing to go Ultra Instinct to win, and it being stated that Kefla was stronger than him with it, but the innate power of Ultra Instinct prevented her from managing to beat him. Only Jiren and Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku are for sure stronger than her, with God of Destruction Top being possibly around her level. In the Manga, while her strength is still impressive, she's comparable to Gohan's improved ultimate state due to Caulifla being significantly weaker than her anime counterpart. Kefla freely admits that Gohan is putting up a challenge that; "Even though I'm merged, I can't even beat a single Saiyan".
* AmazonianBeauty: She looks attractive enough in her base form, but once she transforms, she gains some lean musculature compared to Kale's weightlifter physique.
* AnimeHair: A spiky combination of their fusee hairs.
* BreakTheHaughty: Despite being very full of herself in regards to her strength, Kefla begins to have second thoughts [[spoiler:after the unexpected and sudden reemergence of Goku’s Ultra Instinct transformation.]]
* BloodKnight: The Saiyan blood floods through her veins, as her fight with Goku clearly indicates.
--> '''Roshi:''' That Kefla is well beyond her limits, and yet she fights back.\\
'''Whis:''' What drives Miss Kefla is the Saiyan blood flowing in her.
* ClimaxBoss: Serves as one of them in the anime and the "sole" one in the manga before the Pride Troopers. In the anime, she's fought after Goku discovers his Ultra Instinct form and serves as a very tough opponent (while Agnilasa serves as the last non-Universe 11 fighter that Universe 7 fights). In the manga, not only does she take Agnilasa's role as the last non-Universe 11 fighter, she also takes out a ton of fighters herself as well!
* CurbStompBattle:
** In the manga, Kefla tools the Pride Troopers minus Jiren and Top, knocking six [[WeAreTeamCannonFodder minor members]] out and decking Dyspo with a single punch, all in about two pages.
** In the anime, Kefla toys with SSBKK Goku and nearly knocks him out with one kick.
* CurbstompCushion:
** In the anime, at max power, it's remarked that Kefla is stronger than UI Goku when he first awakened his ability. While she never landed a single blow against him and was ragdolled constantly, she never took any damage either and [[NoSell actually mocked Goku's punches as weak.]] She comes close to outlasting him too, with him acknowledging that if he makes a single mistake, it's over (and if he had gotten hit by her last blast, he would've been finished).
** In the manga, while Kefla never stood a chance against Jiren or the combined powers of more than one of [=U7=]'s heavy hitters (as she herself admits), she still did do a decent amount of damage to their team by knocking out Gohan (in a MutualKill), who was about as strong as CSSB Goku and Vegeta.
* DesperationAttack: When Ultra Instinct Goku powers up a finishing move, she concentrates her energy into intense lasers that can cut through anything, trying to keep Goku on the defensive. She also mixes in regular ki blasts to keep him on his toes.
* DidNotSeeThatComing: In her last gambit, she throws everything at Goku to keep him away, including blasting as much of the arena around her as she could, in addition to firing massive laser blasts at him. It looks to hit, [[spoiler: until Goku uses his Kamehameha to ''grind on her laser'' to get close enough to her. She barely has time to give an OhCrap before Goku blasts her point blank out of the ring.]]
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: Once Champa starts to call her out on losing the fight with Goku, saying how he'll never forgive her if she loses, Kefla simply tells the "peanut gallery" to shut up. Luckily for her, Champa evidently decided to let it go.
* EnergyBall: Kefla's main spherical blasts come in the form of "Fist Cannonball" and "[[MoreDakka Continuous Energy Bullet]]". Additionally, she can have six energy balls at once follow her around, as she demonstrates when chasing UI Sign Goku down a mountain side.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment:
** Anime: Her ''base'' form effortlessly spirits past Super Saiyan God Goku after being formed, much to Goku's immediate surprise.
** Manga: She proceeds to tear through Universe 11's numbers once she unveils her form very easily.
* FusionDance: She is the Potara fusion between the two Saiyan women, thanks to Champa and Fuwa's assistance. She takes more of Kale's appearance without the lipstick, with eyes and a personality closer to Caulifla's. The fusion, however, is temporary, since neither of them are a Supreme Kai.
* GodzillaThreshold:
** When Champa gave Caulifla and Kale the Potara, he told them to not use them lightly, likely due to a combination of not being sure if the Potara is permitted in the tournament and that, if they fuse, they might be considered only one fighter, bringing down U6's remaining fighter count. It's only when Goku decisively defeats them, and is about to ring them out, that Caulifla brings up fusing.
--> '''Champa:''' See that? A real trump card is saved until the last moment!
** In the manga, she instead was only used as a last resort because Kale's power grew so dangerous that nobody could stop her. When Kale began knocking out her own teammates, Caulifla, after being told what they do, has no choice but to use the earrings to stop Kale and calm her down.
* HourOfPower: Under normal circumstances, their Potara fusion lasts an hour since neither are Supreme Kai. However, there's always the possibility they'll burn it out faster like Goku and Vegeta did against Zamasu. [[spoiler:Ultimately, the fusion is broken when they're hit by Ultra Instinct Goku's Kamehameha, shattering the Potara as they're ringed out. According to the narrator, she only existed ''for around 5 minutes'' before being taken down by Goku, though it also doesn't help that her final attack was barrage of Ki blasts that likely drained what time was left like what happened with Vegito.]]
* ImpossibleHourGlassFigure: Carried over from Caulifla. Her waist and belly are very slim.
* LastStand: In the manga, she serves this for Universe 6. Ironically, this is because of her own doing, thanks to Kale knocking out almost all her remaining allies.
* MythologyGag: As the fusion of a female Broly and a female Goku, Kefla is the closest thing to an official appearance of Karoly from ''VideoGame/DragonBallFusions'' in the canon series.
* OhCrap: After seemingly defeating Goku and aiming to finish him off, she has this reaction when he unexpectedly [[spoiler:reawakens Ultra Instinct and dodges her attacks as if they're child's play. She has another one when he unleashes a point-blank Kamehameha in her face and eliminates her.]]
* OvershadowedByAwesome: [[spoiler:Unfortunately, she came into being after Goku had discovered Ultra Instinct. Once Ultra Instinct kicks in, he blasts her out of the ring. She also wouldn't have been able to beat Jiren with her power, and God of Destruction Top would've likely been enough to defeat her as well.]]
--> '''Kefla:''' Ha ha ha! I like this one! I feel I could blown up an entire universe in one shot with the power that's is bubbling in me!
* SmugSuper: A trait she inherits from Caulifla. She’s ''very'' aware of her monstrous strength and taunts Super Saiyan God Goku over his weakness while smacking him all over the place. She even deliberately {{Flash Step}}s right past Goku [[{{Troll}} just to freak him out with how disturbingly fast she is.]]
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Her name should technically be "Kafla" ('''Ka'''le, Cauli'''fla'''), but the Crunchyroll subtitles name her Kefla, due to be a better romanization of '''Kefura''' ('''Ke'''ru, Kari'''fura'''). It appears that, like Vegito, fusion names fall on the LostInTranslation.
* SphereOfPower: In one of VideoGame/DragonBallHeroes' advertisements for the Universe Conflict arc, she demonstrates this ability to surround herself in a green energy orb before engaging the Tuffle twins Kamin and Oran.
* SuperMode: She gains Kale's unique controlled Super Saiyan transformation, which gives Kefla some musculature into her body. She, like Caulifla, states she isn't satisfied with it and brags to Goku she will obtain the Super Saiyan Blue transformation. [[spoiler:The manga instead gives her a slightly better version of Super Saiyan, due to Kale not having the Berserk transformation.]]
--> '''Kefla:''' Don't you wanna see me go Blue?!\\
'''Goku:''' (''Enjoying the fight'') If you even can!\\
'''Kefla:''' I swear I will! After I surpass you!
* SuperPowerLottery: Being a Saiyan is this in itself. The ability to grow by leaps and bounds even in the middle of a fight is Goku's trademark, and it served Kefla nearly as well as her fight with Goku pushed her to extreme levels of power that she couldn't have accessed otherwise.
--> '''Kefla''': Hooray for being born a Saiyan!
* SuperSpeed: The first thing she did during the Tournament was to do a flash step behind Super Saiyan God Goku just for the kicks, not unlike Jiren.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: In the manga, she refers to Jiren as trash and tries to butt in on his fight with Goku by attacking. She's damn lucky that Gohan jumped in to challenge her first, or that attempt likely would've ended with her on the receiving end of a OneHitKill.
* UnskilledButStrong: Like her component parts, Kefla has little battle awareness or restraint, and her techniques consist of increasingly large, often impractical energy blasts. She clearly not in total control of her power either, and over reaches and unbalances herself twice through her inability to regulate her speed. In terms of raw power though, she is the strongest person from her universe, and stands among the top fighters in the tournament without any doubt. Her raw power as a Super Saiyan was on par with Goku's [[StoryBreakerPower Spirit Bomb]], and was on par with [[spoiler: Ultra Instinct Goku]]. [[spoiler:It ultimately costs her, as while as as Super Saiyan 2 she was actually stronger than UI Goku, she lacked the skill of someone like Jiren to actually keep up with and hit UI Goku, thus allowing him to outmaneuver and ultimately ring her out. It's telling that she's ultimately beaten not by her final KamehameHadoken being overwhelmed by Goku's, but by Goku dodging around it and blasting her when she can't react to counter it]].
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Like all non-Kai fusions, she speaks with the voice of both Caulifla and Kale in unison.
** Series director said on an interview that, contrary to most fusions where both actors look at the screen to keep in synch, Creator/{{Yukana}} preferred to look at [[Creator/YukaKomatsu Yuka Komatsu's]] lips. Of course Kale wanted to look at Caulifla's lips...
* WalkingSpoiler: The likelihood of a fusion, much more a Potara-based one subtly teased since the Tournament of Power's intro, was deemed as unlikely due to the ambiguously flexible rules surrounding item usage. The creation of Kefla shattered those beliefs.
* WorldsStrongestWoman: She is not only the strongest female mortal of Universe 6 but is also the strongest warrior of Universe 6 in terms of battle power thanks to her status as a fusion. As a byproduct of this, she's also the strongest female character that isn't a God of Destruction, or an Angel in ''Super''. It's quite telling she can give a match to Super Saiyan God Goku and alert Vegeta of her presence ''in her base form''.
--> '''Vados:''' The new body and personality born from a Potara fusion are more than the sum of their parts, and their power increases tens of times.
* WorthyOpponent: Something she takes from Caulifla, but she admits to herself she loves to fight against Goku, and wants to surpass him.
--> '''Kefla:''' This is great! You really are outstanding! A worthy foe to defeat!
