* MultinationalTeam: While intially primarily comprised of Japanese members due to being formed by various Japanese resistance groups, over time more ethnicities began to join the group, ranging from Indians like Rakshata, Chinese like Xingke, and even Britannian's like Diethard. By the midpoint of ''R2'', the group is effectively comprised of anyone willing to fight against the tyranny of Britannia regardless of their nationality, making them the perfect choice to be the United Federation of Nations armed forces. This gets taken UpToEleven by the Kowa era, [[spoiler:as most of the Britannian military was absorbed into the Black Knights, with Cornelia, Guilford, and Gino now being members. The only reason the entire military hasn't joined is due to Zero fearing too much power in one group left unchecked, so groups like the Glinda Knights remain independeant as a means of Checks and Balances.]]

* HeroWithBadPublicity: Heroes to the Japanese and all other non-Britannia nations, terrorists to Britannia.

* RapunzelHair: Her hair is very long and shiny because she is an Ojou.

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: You'd be hard pressed to find someone in the series who genuinely likes and/or trusts Diethard (though he and Rakshata seem to get along well enough when they work together in Turn 22). Most of the other Black Knights are wary of him because he's Britannian and Lelouch sees him as a means to an end, nothing more. * RedBaron: Tohdoh of Miracles.

* TookALevelInJerkass: When first introduced, he maintains a calm demeanor and has a high sense of honor, willing to FaceDeathWithDignity, follow Zero's orders to the letter, and even encourage Suzaku to follow his ideals to the bitter end even if it puts them on opposite sides of the war. By the end of R2, he's completely abandoned his calm demeanor and more openly expresses rage, [[spoiler:partakes in the betrayal of Lelouch and allying with Schneizel, commands the Black Knights to execute Lelouch,]] screams at Suzaku that his ideals are worthless while attempting to kill him, and nearly strikes Chiba when she tries to stop him from rejoining the battle due to his severe injuries, only stopping when she visibly recoils out of fright.

* IResembleThatRemark: He's displeased that Rolo, a new recruit, was allowed to join up at a higher rank than himself. Rolo says it's because personal loyalty is most important to Zero, and Asahina gets angry at the implied insult. [[spoiler:Asahina is the ''first'' Black Knight who betrays Zero (a full episode before the rest of them do), and Rolo is one of the only characters who stays loyal.]]

* IResembleThatRemark: Asahina gets angry when Rolo questions his loyalty to Zero, and suggests this is why he doesn't rank higher among the Black Knights. * ReplacementScrappy: Is one in-universe for Diethard, who grudgingly thinks that he's only concerned about saving his own ass and not as effective as Lelouch was. And although the others don't show much reaction, it's implied that they don't like the way he works either.
