Star- and Heartbuddies are small beings in the shape of stars and hearts who help out the Care Bears and Cousins with day-to-day tasks, missions and so forth.

* EmpathyPet: Often they're there to react to things alongside the Care Bears.
* FantasticLightSource: Starbuddies can control how brightly they shine and have been used to signal between teams.
* {{Flight}}: This is their default mode of travel, and it makes them useful for sending messages and so forth.
* {{Metamorphosis}}: Once they hit a certain point in their lifespan, Starbuddies need to be taken to Big Star Point so they can actually become stars in the heavens. What about Heartbuddies? ...Maybe we're better off not knowing.
* {{Sidekick}}: They often chip to assist the Bears with what they're doing, such as chores and the like. Starbuddies at least have also been shown to do useful things like pick locks or act like beacons.
* TeamPet: Starbuddies tend to be associated with the Bears in art and Heartbuddies with the Cousins.

Appearing in the 1980s DIC series, and the first villain that the Care Bears faced. A blue-skinned, white-haired MadScientist obsessed with literally and emotionally freezing the rest of the world over. He and his bumbling assistant Frostbite have been quietly removed from continuity, since they were Creator/{{DiC}}-original characters and, when Creator/{{Nelvana}} took the rights, they couldn't take the Professor.

* AnIcePerson: He's been described as "a kindergartener's [[Franchise/{{Batman}} Mister Freeze]]". He has blue skin and white hair, which calls to mind ice and snow, always dresses in wintery clothing, and his technology and schemes revolve around emotionally ''and'' literally freezing things.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: Does it often at the first sighting of the bears. "Disgusting aren't they?"
* BreakingSpeech: One of his favorite tactics is to target emotionally vulnerable children and push them over the edge and into his service.
* ComplexityAddiction: Well, manipulation addiction at least. Cold Heart indulged in his ManipulativeBastard tendencies at just about any given occasion, whether or not it actually furthered his scheme. Particularly blatant in "Wedding Bells", where his plan mostly failed because he had manipulated his own ally Auntie Freeze into playing her part, when telling her the truth would probably have served just as well. When she found out he'd lied to her, she turned on him.
* DystopiaJustifiesTheMeans: While he occasionally mentions a desire for power and domination, most of his plans seem to simply involve hurting people ForTheEvulz.
* EvilIsDeathlyCold: His obvious motif as a villain; in the movies, his mere presence tends to chill the environment around him, causing ice to build up in any place he stays.
* EvilIsPetty: This grown man gets a bizarre amount of joy from watching kids bullying each other and regularly encourages them to play pranks and dirty tricks.
* GambitRoulette: One of his plans involved opening a magic shop, then hiring a kid to work there, with the anticipation that said kid would have slightly jerkish friends who'd swipe one of his inventions (an uncaring blaster) and start shooting people with it for funsies. Did it work? Yes. Could he have just blasted people his own self? ...Yes.
* HeelFaceBrainwashing: A very temporary one in the "Runaway". Interesting to note, that it wasn't from Care Bears Stare, but from his own machine malfunction.
* IAmSong: His first VillainSong, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0f130MJjKE "I'm Professor Cold Heart,"]] which is basically bragging about who he is and what he can do.
* KickTheDog: Perhaps moreso than any other villain in the franchise. His ''first'' appearance had him luring runaway children and then mutating them into pathetic, voiceless creatures he kept as slaves (with creepy pedophilic undertones). His second appearance had him using a device to have every child in town frozen solid (and he took some time away from that plot to kidnap the Care Bear cubs, ''encase them in ice'', and then ''kick them'' while [[VillainSong singing about his plot]]). Later appearances had him keep it up - draining abducted children of energy to power a weapon, torturing a little girl by freezing her arm...
* {{Leitmotif}}: His plans going into action were often accompanied with the music from his IAmSong from the first movie.
* MadScientist: Many of his inventions looked like something straight our of Creator/DrSeuss, but that didn't make them any less dangerous.
* ManipulativeBastard: Perhaps more-so than any other villain in the franchise. Professor Cold Heart's plans always involved ''some'' degree of manipulation, whether aimed at the Care Bears or the children they were trying to protect.
* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: ''Professor'' Cold Heart. He's certainly an EvilGenius, though what exactly he's a professor of is unknown.
* MyBrainIsBig: Cold Heart's oversized cranium clearly invokes his high intelligence.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: Pretty much started the trend of this in the 1980s Care Bears cartoon. The very first villain the Care Bears ever face is an ice-obsessed MadScientist who seduces kids into coming to his castle, where he transforms them into his helpless slaves -- all with disturbingly pedophile-like undertones.
* VillainDecay: Cold Heart was legitimately terrifying in his debut appearance. In the next TV special, he's given a goofy sidekick and undertakes a standard supervillain plan to freeze the world rather than the disturbingly personal villainy from before. In the TV show, he decays further, being given a sillier, high-pitched voice and treated as more of a bumbling nuisance.

* AllLoveIsUnrequited: She has something of a crush on Professor Coldheart, which he unwisely exploited during the episode "Wedding Bells".
* AnIcePerson: She can freeze people with icy eye beams.
* DistaffCounterpart: She's basically a female Professor Coldheart, being a female ice-themed Care Bears villain.
* EvilIsPetty: She spent days pretending to be a monster in a small child's closet, just for the fun of depriving her of sleep. ''Wow''. Okay, and to set a trap for the Care Bears, but she was ''seriously'' proud of the sleep thing.
* {{Invisibility}}: One of her powers.
* WomanScorned: In the episode "Wedding Bells", after learning that Professor Coldheart had faked his proposal as part of a scheme to smuggle a destructive gadget into Care-A-Lot, she is ''livid'', freezing the Professor with her EyeBeams and, after an abortive attempt to use the gadget herself, angrily dragging him off whilst vowing to make him regret ever hearing of her name.

The primary villain of the 1980s Nelvana series; a malevolent sorcerer who sought to extinguish positive feelings and to defeat the Care Bears in pursuit of this goal. He has a bumbling assistant, Beastly, and is also assisted by his niece Shreeky.

* BadBoss: His standard punishment for Beastly's inevitable foul-ups is blasting him with electric magic bolts.
* BigOlEyebrows: Has huge brows that are his most expressive, since he doesn't really ''have'' any other feature apart from his eyes.
* CardCarryingVillain: He outright states that he's evil and he exists to spread evil.
* CartoonishSupervillainy: Lots of his plots come off as this.
* DystopiaJustifiesTheMeans: He just wants to snuff out love, care, hope and all other positive emotions.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Although he'd never admit it, he loves his niece Shreeky, and actually displays something quite close to caring for her.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: He simply can't understand what's so awesome about caring and kindness.
* EvilerThanThou: No Heart's malice is so high that he frightens even other villains. Most notably, he teams up with the villain Dr. Fright in one episode, and the bad doctor is absolutely ''terrified'' of him all along. Especially when he inevitably fails No Heart and is carried off by him in the form of a tornado.
* EvilLaugh: Has a very unsettling sounding one.
* EvilSorcerer: No Heart has magic powers, and is a threatening villain out to exterminate all positive feelings.
* TheFaceless: All we ever see of his face are his huge eyebrows and his burning red eyes.
* TheHeartless: Apparently the personification of negative feelings.
* HumanoidAbomination: Is heavily implied to be this.
* KickTheDog: With Beastly; anytime they share the screen, No Heart is going to verbally or physically abuse his underling.
* LargeHam: "I am hate! I... am EVIL! I... am NO HEART!!"
* MadeOfEvil: Apparently. That damn CareBearStare gets him every time.
* MysteriousPast: The only thing we learn about him is that he's got a niece, and even ''that's'' basically a RetCon.
* PetTheDog: He seems to have some legitimate fatherly affection for his niece, Shreeky, going so far as letting her live with him (despite the fact that her constant screaming screws up his powers) and even praising her on occasion.
** He also kind of does this with Beastly in "The Big Star Round-up". At the beginning of the episode, he reveals he's got a demon that he plans to sic on the Care Bears, and tells Beastly point-blank it'll be replacing him once it does so. Beastly spends the episode trying to one-up the demon and destroy the Care Bears first ([[FailureIsTheOnlyOption it goes about as well as you'd expect it to]]), finally culminating in him accidentally [=KOing=] the thing. He returns home and begins to pack his things, expecting to be kicked out. Instead No Heart tells him to get rid of ''the demon'', saying, "If anyone fails me, it's going to be you!"
* RedEyesTakeWarning: He's a terrifying villain with red eyes.
* ShadowedFaceGlowingEyes: His glowing red eyes are the only parts of his face that are visible, which is otherwise obscured in darkness by his purple cloak.
* SorcerousOverlord: A sorcerer who is an overlord to Beastly and Shreeky.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He shares several traits with both the living spell from the first film and Dark Heart from the second. Not only are all of them shapeshifters, but No Heart's colors are eerily similar to those of the spell's. Also, Dark Heart and No Heart are both magicians who want to rid the world of caring. However, while the spell is ultimately destroyed and Dark Heart ''does'' reform, No Heart never stops being evil.
* TantrumThrowing: He throws things around whenever he's mad.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: He picked up Professor Cold Heart's schtick as a surprisingly scary bad guy for such a kiddy setting. Even InUniverse, he absolutely terrifies everyone; even other villains, like the disturbingly vampire-like Doctor Fright, are ready to mess their pants at his presence.
* VoluntaryShapeshifter: The magical crystal he wears around his neck allows him to assume almost any form he desires; mostly he takes on the form of animals, but he has become a tornado at least once.
** InvoluntaryShapeshifter: When Shreeky's shrieking, he loses control and morphs at random.
* WeaksauceWeakness: ThePowerOfFriendship and ThePowerOfLove do NOT mix well with this guy. Also, he seems to have a slight pathological fear of hugs (as exemplified by his hauling ass when Beastly attempted to give him one).
* WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove: Actually "What Is This Thing You Call Caring". He knows all too well what it is, he just hates it and everything about it.
* WouldHurtAChild: In "Bravest of the Brave", he comes ''this'' close to frying the young boy who's just saved the Bears and Cousins from the episode's death-trap...only [[JustInTime their timely arrival]] [[BigDamnHeroes puts a halt on that]].

* DaddysLittleVillain: More like "Uncle's Little Villain". She idolizes No Heart and wants to be just like him. Meanwhile, she's the only individual he shows any sign of having something remotely approaching positivity for.
* EnfantTerrible: She's a kid, and also one of the villains.
* EvilLaugh: Seems to have inherited this from No Heart.
* FriendlyEnemy: On ''extremely rare'' occasions, she and Beastly are on peaceful terms with the Care Bears.

A nameless evil spirit who appears in [[WesternAnimation/TheCareBearsMovie the first film]]. She "befriends" a young, lonely magician's assistant named Nicholas, turning him into her pawn so she can rid the entire world of caring.

* AxCrazy: It's not immediately obvious at first given her suave and subdued demeanor early on, but as the film progresses it becomes obvious she's not only an anarchistic nihilist that wants to drive the world into anarchy, but she's also an insane, emotionally manipulative sadist.
* BigBad: Of the first movie, being the commanding force behind Nicholas.
* ColdHam: While she is normally very hammy, she can also give dramatic lines with a subdued tone, which in turn makes her more threatening.
* DarkIsEvil: While she starts off portraying herself as [[LightIsNotGood a golden face with green eyes- colors associated with divinity]], she quickly discards it by inverting her color scheme to what she's best remembered as- a dark-green hyper-realistic face with tints to highlight her bone structure and yellow eyes. She also causes a HatePlague, [[CorruptTheCutie corrupts Nicholas into villainy]], and summons sentient spells with frightening visages.
* EvilIsHammy: She starts off as suave and charismatic but gradually she indulges more and more in viciously bombastic lines as she becomes more and more successful in her plans.
* FalseFriend: She pretends to befriend Nicholas, but it's an act to aid her schemes.
* GoodColorsEvilColors: Downplayed as she was always evil. She starts off [[LightIsGood manifesting with a golden color scheme with emerald green eyes]] to make her appear more appealing to Nicholas. When Tenderheart pesters her enough, she permanently inverts her color scheme in a bout of fury- [[GreenAndMean green with visible shadows]] and [[YellowEyesofSneakiness sinister yellow eyes]], which shows her true evil colors, but Nicholas is both too naive and desperate for a friend to notice.
* LargeHam: She starts off with a reserved tone but the more her plan succeeds, she begins to become more and more bombastic in her tone of voice.
* LightIsNotGood: Initially, she manifests with a golden color scheme with green eyes while having the worst intentions in mind to be more visually comforting to Nicholas. She quickly tosses this aside when Tender-Heart manages to annoy her enough- permanently inverting her color scheme to dark green with the yellow sclera.
* ManipulativeBitch: She persuaded Nicholas quite easily with her plans, helped by the fact he was so desperate for a friend, he'd do anything.
* MaskOfSanity: She acts like a suave and charismatic woman early on but gradually the mask begins to slip to reveal her true personality as a nihilistic, destructive, and insane sadist.
* MysteriousPast: Like so many other Care Bears villains, we know nothing about who she was, what horrible things she did before being stuck in a book, and who put her there. At most, Tenderheart speculates that The Spirit has some beef against Care-A-Lot and wanted to rid Earth of all caring specifically to destroy the former.
* NonstandardCharacterDesign: She's drawn in sharp angles with tints to highlight her bone structure- leading to a hyper-realistic face that contrasts the softer characters and the cutesy environment.
* ObviouslyEvil: She initially tries to downplay it in spite of being attached to an ominous-looking spellbook by appearing as a [[LightIsNotGood golden face with emerald eyes]]. When Tender-Heart pesters her enough, she inverts her color scheme into the one she portrays for the rest of the film- a green hyper-realistic face with yellow eyes- which plays this straight. Nicholas is too desperate and lonely for a friend to truly comprehend this even when she causes a HatePlague or summoning [[EldritchAbomination sentient spells]].
