Taking place in a fantastical version of Ukraine, the story is about Mavka, the gentle humanoid soul of the forest, who faces an impossible choice between love and her duty as the new Guardian of the Heart of the Forest when she falls in love with a human, the talented young musician Lukash, and when the evil woodswoman Kylina is seeking to destroy the forest and find a mysterious source in its heart.
