* {{Engrish}}: The classic "L and R" form. The villain "Marinche" in the English version is clearly intended to be the historical [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malinche Malinche]], but is called the former in the English and Japanese version. In the French version (and remember the series authors and producers were all French) she is correctly called "Malinche".

Halfway through the first season, the tone of the story begins to change from a mostly-historical narrative to a more fantastic one with the discovery of the [[GlobalAirship Golden Condor]]. The first season culminates in a battle with the mysterious Olmecs, and the discovery that the Cities of Gold were built by Tao's ancestors, the people of Mu. This tone continues into seasons two and three, focussing primarily on the search for the Cities of Gold and the technology of Mu. Season Two introduces a new villain in Zares, a mysterious hooded figure who seeks the cities for his own purposes. It also reveals a startling fact about Esteban's history He is an Atlantean, the ancient enemies of Mu.

* {{Retcon}}:
** In the first season it's a major plot point that all technology from the Mu, including the Golden Condor, requires solar power. The Condor thus cannot fly at night, a limitation that figures through mmany episodes. Come the second season, this limitation of the Condor is gone, with the Condor both inferred to be able to fly at night (having crossed the Atlantic between seasons, then going into east asia) and being seen flying at night in some scenes.
** Zia and Esteban's medallions darken when separated from them in season 2 on. This is an ability they never displayed before.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: Malinche suggests poisoning a village to get at the gold in the lake as well as to keep the kids from being sacrificed. The doctor's response to this suggestion is, "What?!" and says he hates doing it -- and even then, he only ''mixes'' the poison, mumbling about how much he hates it. It's very easy to assume that he only did it because he fears retribution from the other two.
