Schoolgirl lesbians? Seriously? Give me a break. PULLED. Along with Ass Pull

BT The P: Reviewing this show in my mind reminds me of a lot of character types that should probably have entries. Mr Touchy Feely comes to mind, like that teacher from Daria that was always talking about feelings, and sharing, and rainbows, etc.

I should really not write this stuff when I'm exhausted.

Rebochan: I know, it's not Wikipedia, but I have never heard anything outside of fan speculation saying that Tom Sloane was a sign of Executive Meddling. Since the poor bastard is often a target of Die for Our Ship, I'm rather suspicious of this claim. Also, the Ass Pull.

  • And I pulled them *again* because there's no evidence of Executive Meddling. Daria/Trent shippers are just a brutal bunch. And I pulled Bait-and-Switch Lesbians too - come on, from *day one* they showed the two girls attracted to guys.
    • Okay, you know what? A good chunk of this entry was clearly written by a Daria/Trent shipper. I tried to kill as much as I could. Seriously people, the show ended like ten years ago, get over it! They broke up at the end anyway, it's not like they tried to make Tom into Daria's One True Love.

Rebochan: I pulled some more. Seriously, Tom Sloane can't catch a break. Almost every entry mentioning him is just an excuse to scream about him.

Rebochan: Heroes Want Redheads was pulled because neither of the girls in question are red heads, but looking over older screens and images of Quinn, I'm starting to question myself. I always thought she was a strawberry blond. I'll eat crow if I'm wrong though.

Sabbo: Pulled the following for not being examples unto them selves, but rather aspects of other examples:
  • Jossed (No, Lawndale's on the East Coast!)
  • Retcon (Again, 'Lawndale's actually over there!)
  • Wordof God (Lawndale's there, and Daria's NOT hooking up with either Trent or Jane! So THERE!)

Rebochan: I did a little expansion. I also pulled Big Name Fan for the moment because there was no explanation - who's the big name fan?
Jumpingzombie: Ok could someone explain this example:

  • Ho Yay (The last shot of the series showed Daria and Jane working together, and having similar clothes and haircuts.)

How is that an example of Ho Yay?

Rebochan: Huh, I didn't see that go up. Yea, it's not. At all. Nothing in that shot is Ho Yay either. Maybe if they were kissing.

By the way, I'd debate Quinn being The Libby. Sandi without question, but Quinn never tries to be mean or nasty, she's just The Ditz. The only mean thing she does is trying to lie about her relationship to Daria, but she's still missing the true streak of cruelty necessary of The Libby.

Jumpingzombie: Removed the examples for Chickification, Romantic Plot Tumor, and Writer on Board since they contained natter and seemed like personal opinions of someone who was just pissed about the direction the show went in.

  • Chickification Daria and Jane, once Tom Sloane shows up)
  • Romantic Plot Tumor (Tom being linked to BOTH Jane, and then Daria)
  • Writer on Board (How Tom was introduced, why Jake was such a screw-upo, why Barch hated men, why Daria and jane suffered Chickification once Tom rolled into view...basically, why only Quinn, Stacy and Helen ever grew as characters.

Fluffy Hitman: Removed the example for Designated Hero, it describes a character that is presented as heroic, despite not actually doing anything heroic. Daria is presented as a pretty flawed person, and this entry just seems to be an excuse for whoever put it there to rant about the fandom.

  • Designated Hero: Daria's classmates—shallow and vapid they may be—are generally good-natured and never tease her for being different. This doesn't stop her from being nasty and condescending towards anyone who doesn't meet her standards. One could argue that she is a teenager and just as immature as any other and still learning about life, except that she's become the fucking patron saint of nerds! Arrgh!

Rebochan: Daria is constantly called out for her behavior on the show and her flaws are not unacknowledged. That she's very funny makes her an amusing protagonist, but not a hero. That some fans see her as their patron saint and project traits on her that she doesn't have (Daria as an activist?! Hello?!) doesn't make her the Designated Hero either.

...which is really just a personal rant of mine and thus agreeing with the cut. Sorry about that

Jumpingzombie: I would like to debate the Cool Loser example. The description of that trope says it applies to characters who have no real issues that would cause them to be considered losers by others. Daria and Jane are obviously antisocial in the first place and don't enjoy the company of many people. They ignore or snark at those that they would rather not be around. In addition, Daria, especially, chooses not to dressed very fashionable. I just don't think the trope fits.
