Vampire Buddha: I've re-written the description somewhat to remove the idea that this is Fake Difficulty. I also took out this:

**To be fair, tapes were relatively plentyful. As long as you saved when the game required you to pass a typewriter instead of running back to save every time you killed a zombie, you were good.
  • On the harder difficulties, ribbon tape becomes a valuable commodity, as each one you find is only good for one use, rather than three.

Natter

** Although to be perfectly fair, the game allows players to make a "quicksave" anywhere. Although a bit less reliable, this allows for saving anywhere that the menu can be opened.
  • Not that it's much use in the cutscene-heavy six-boss double final dungeon.
Natter

* This editor feels that console games are about a bazillion times less annoying when played with an emulator that can freeze and thaw the entire logical state of the fake console into files at any point, instead of an actual console.
  • This troper feels the above editor is a wuss.

Irrelevant, and pure natter. Also, Eric is a total wuss.

Metaphysician: Actually, as I originally conceived this trope, it is *supposed* to be for cases where limitations on game saving result in Fake Difficulty. I admit, however, that one person's "reasonable and inobtrusive save system" is another person's "god damnit, where the hell is a save point?!"
