History Repeats launched as History Repeats: From YKTTW

Describe History Repeats Discussion here.

Anonymous Mc Cartneyfan: This trope can be saved if it isn't redundant. (Since we have Here We Go Again!, it might be.) Dot Dot Dot: I hope i'm not the only one who found the above statement funny, considering the context.

Sackett: I had this in a YKTTW, but I guess somebody decided to just start it. Did a poor job.

Sackett: Okay, I launched it from the YKTTW, ans I'll put the original version of the page here just in case someone wants to use it as a trope called "Lessons Of History" or something:

Old page:

"The lessons of history teach us - if they teach us anything - that nobody learns the lessons that history teaches us."
-Motto of Paul Robinson, author of the book Instrument Of God

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

George Santayana said, "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it." This seems to be shown to be the case in view of so many things that seem to be repetitions of things that have happened before.

There are some films where they deal with the world repeating over and over, e.g. Groundhog Day and the similar film 12:01. But this trope happens when history repeats itself without Groundhog Day. This can happen either in linear history or in a Time Travel situation (which can turn Stable Time Loop or get worse, depending). The key is, it involves people who should know X will lead to Y, but who Did Not Do The Research, and so they don't expect X to lead to Y.

When consciously invoked, it's usually an Idiot Ball of some sort.
