Yuri Fanboy launched as Yuri Fanboy: From YKTTW

Working Title: Men Want Girl On Girl: From YKTTW

Ross N: Of course, as any generalization, the assumption that all men find lesbians hot is not unchallenged. There are straight men who admittedly do not heed to the lure of Les Yay. The reports of their existence, however, remain sketchy and unconfirmed and it is, thus, safe to assume that Yuri Fanboys are Truth in Television.

Hey!

Ok it is kind of funny but given that several of us stated we aren't much into Les Yay during the YKTTW it comes across as kinda jerkish.

Catullus?! Really? Somehow I doubt that nicknaming that woman "Lesbia" had anything to do with her orientation.

Twin Bird: That's a joke. Between his fanboy crush on Sappho and his nickname for Clodia, I couldn't resist; this ain't Wikipedia.

Cassius335: Removed;-

She dies permanently later.

...for having nothing to do with the trope. Shame on you, Andyzero.

Drow Lord: For some reason, I thought this trope applied to shipping (like, say, Yue/Nodoka. Pretty obvious that it's not, but is there another trope like that?

Koveras: That would be Slash Fic... wouldn't it?..

Etrangere: That or Ho Yay (which Les Yay redirects to)

Drow Lord: *much later* Whee, it exists!

This article spends too many lines lambasting Yuri fanboys suppossed homophobia and dislike of lesbians having happy endings. The Yaoi Fangirl page has nothing like that. And no, I don't believe that yaoi fangirls are "more open-minded" than yuri fanboys. They like to see guys screwing. Period.

Agreed. Honestly, relationships that are constantly hinted at and yet never go anywhere are a *very* well known element of crappy anime. It's definitely not just a yuri thing. As for the homophobia, it's not really a male thing - I've seen shoujo shows where characters say things like "relationships always work better between a man and a woman" and assorted nonsense. It's not a case of men hating lesbian relationships, it's just Japan being its old hilariously close-minded self and sticking to ancient social norms. So yeah, got rid of the pointless paragraphs.

C Banana: The thing is there are generally two types of Yuri Fanboys (and maybe some people who fall in between).

  • Type 1:
    • Loves lesbian pornography.
    • Wants to get into a threesome with two females.
    • Could care less about relationships.
  • Type 2:
    • Probably enjoys lesbian pornography but definitely enjoys works focusing more on romantic aspects.
    • Doesn't care for threesome ideas.
    • Has various feminist leanings.
    • Has a strong liking for female characters in general, particularly strong female characters.
As a type 2 Yuri Fanboy, the article does upset me a little but not enough to really offend me. As for Yaoi Fangirls, it's generally a bad idea of stereotyping them (after all there is some pretty good Yaoi fanfiction out there).

  • I'd say type 2 would be more "doesn't primarily care about threesome ideas." There's plenty in that box who don't exactly mind the idea.

Bobby G: This trope is currently under discussion for a possible rename here.

Some Sort Of Troper: Update, renamed to Girl on Girl Is Hot

C Banana: I'm going to weed out examples that are simply Les Yay. After all, this trope is about characters being turned on by lesbianism not the audience being pandered to fanservice wise.

Update Jan 29/2010 - Removed Examples: (perhaps they can be moved to Les Yay)

  • Spun into the most unsettling of nightmares in Blue Drop: Tenshi no Bokura, which explores in depth psychological and societal consequences of an invasion by alien lesbians.
  • This is the most reasonable explanation for the ending animation for NEEDLESS. Mio, Setsuna and Kuchinashi are getting all up in each other set to upbeat music, and the fans watch.
  • The Word of God on Elf Quest is that Everyone Is Bi - at least the elves are, although it seems to apply to some of the human characters as well. Three notable female pairings are Leetah and Nightfall (both also in established m/f partnerships), Dewshine and Tyleet (three-way with Scouter (male)) and Jink and the human Tamia (ditto with male human Kullyn). There's also a piece of art from an Elf Quest Portfolio which appears to parody this trope by depicting Nightfall, Dewshine and Moonshade, all in varying degrees of undress, luring a male human into a swamp. Not for purposes of WAM, one assumes.
  • There can surely be no other reason for the inclusion of Anna Friel and Calista Flockhart mud-wrestling in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Now, that was most certainly not in the original play...
    • Of course that depends on whether or not you consider Calista Flockhart a woman...
    • Given the Bard's dedication to titillating his audience, it hardly seems unlikely that it would have been in the original if a) He thought he could get away with it and b) he had actual female women to play the parts.
  • The happy ending for the protagonist of Dodgeball is when he sees his love interest kissing another woman. When a character comments, "I knew you were a lesbian", she raises an eyebrow and says, "No, I'm not a lesbian, I'm bisexual". The protagonist ends up in a three-way kiss with both women.
  • the 2003 film Monster featured a number of scenes with Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci.
    • Since Ricci put on quite a bit of weight for the role and Theron is made up to basically look like Jon Voight with boobs, this is a good example of Fan Disservice to most guys.
  • Likely the only reason t.A.T.u exists. Apart from Catholic Schoolgirls Rule.
    • They did come through in the clutch, though, putting in an appearance at Moscow Pride... yes, the one that was violently broken up by skinheads and the police.
  • This Anime mashup to go with a Loudon Wainright III song. The song itself, "I.W.I.W.A.L. (I Wish I Was I Lesbian)", is, among other things, a parody of this trope.
  • Likely Katy Perry's motivation in recording "I Kissed A Girl", somehow having missed the memo that while girl on girl may be hot, it's not really that edgy any more.
    • Although considering the amount of flak she caught, including from her own parents...
  • Touhou, as a game with an almost entirely female cast, naturally features plenty of WAFF Girls' Love FanFics. Considering a good portion of the fanbase doesn't even play the games, this is probably the only reason some even follow the series. Don't be fooled: A sizable portion of these yuri fanboys are actually female themselves.
  • Lots of Les Yay between Lei Fang and Kasumi of Dead Or Alive. At least in the volleyball series.
  • The end of Haloid - Fanservice Evolved reveals that Samus isn't fighting Master Chief but a female spartan named Nicole-458 and ends with some rather implicative scenes of Samus helping her out of her armor.
  • South Park ripped on this in the episode "D-Yikes!," featuring Mrs. Garrison in the most unappetizing lesbian sex scenes you will ever see.
    • SCISSOR ME TIMBERS!
  • An Onion headline parodied this: The picture showed a pair of middle aged, frumpy lesbians with the caption "Lesbian Couple Enjoys Hot Lesbian Action"
  • Looking at some of the banners on this site, either the creators of IMVU, or its clientele.

Orange Aipom: How are there No Bisexuals if the source says that all girls are? O_o

C Banana: The Clannad example might be able to be moved to Yuri Fan. The guy might have totally perverted reasons for doing it but he looks like he's still shipping two girls together. However, I haven't seen Clannad so I don't know if that perception is actually true or not.
