This Trope may well qualify as Newer Than They Think, if men shared this fantasy in Antiquity they weren't as open about it. Male Homo Eroticism is far more common (It's pervasive in Plato's Dialogues and various myths, and even hinted at in The Bible), the few examples of Poetry about Lesbian Intimacy that depicts it as positive or pleasurable are among the few examples of Females who got something Published, like Sappho of Lesbos, or Enheduanna daughter of Sargon of Akkad.

Rare references to Lesbianism among male authors treat it as inherently weird, some Greek philosophers speculated that Women who sleep with women must all have elongated Clitorises that they can use like Penises.

But it's all speculation, I'd like to know if there is more research on this before I consider adding it to the page proper.

Kind of embarrassed to comment on this/show knowlege of the subject:

I'm familiar with two Greco-Roman mentions of Lesbianism-

  • In one of Lucian's "Dialogues of the Courtesans", where one of the women has a client who is a Butch Lesbian who dresses and behaves like a man and the other courtesans are curious about if/how the two had sex. There seems to be an oblique reference to that clitoris theory, but I'd say that Lucian's presentation of lesbianism seems neutral-to-positive (positive in the sense of this trope)- like the other prostitutes don't get it and are sort of titillated by the mystery
  • The Roman poet Martial has a couple of epigrams referring to lesbians, and he has a very negative, disgusted reaction.

I would tend to think this is a recent trope, as it requires a society where women have some degree of rights/ability to socialize- for one thing, the Schoolgirl Lesbians/ "gay til graduation" tropes require that women are able to go to school, including higher education.

The Newer Than They Think part is probably accurate, if only because I really can't think of many classical instances of lesbianism. However, this is entirely anecdotal so I hesitate to really cast a vote.

The parts that implied that it's solely a Western thing, however, were stupid. The fact we have an Anime and Manga section is proof enough of that.

Should we add an entry for Persona? I have two particular examples I am thinking of. One of them is Persona 4 Golden, where there is a hot springs scene where the various P4 girls are having physical bonding with Marie, and the male characters are trying to peek over the fence to see this.

Another example is Persona 5 Strikers, again a hot springs scene. This time, Futaba is making dirty comments about the breasts of Ann and Haru, with the male characters listening in and reacting to it. You as the MC can even invoke it when picking the "hot springs rule" option.

Should we break this one up into subpages? The Live-Action TV tab, at least, is growing rather bloated.

I have removed the wiki link from the word "Lesbian" > "Does not like men" to avoid politics. Just because they aren't sexually attracted to men doesn't mean they hate/dislike them.
