Tzintzuntzan: I changed Molly's age to 11 because that's how old she says she is in the first issue of Runaways. Although she does later say "I dropped out of fourth grade." Speaking of Molly, she's really not The Big Guy in the Five-Man Band — Chase fits that slot better, with Molly as The Chick (although a much slyer one than usual).

Now that I've geeked out like that, do you think we have enough Runaways examples to justify an entry for the whole comic book now? If so, I propose the following quote to open it:

"I'm an adult and I take full responsibility."

The Mole

Seth: Ive been meaning to make a Runaways page for a while i love the series. And chase fills the Leader/Hero/Tactics guy role or to put it another way he is the heart of the team. Molly is defiantly the The Big Guy.

Ununnilium: Well, the Runaways never really fit the Five-Man Band, anyway; for one thing, the roles keep shifting around. But yes, we need a page for it. Definitely deserved.

Tzintzuntzan: I think they fit the Five-Man Band very well, even when they have six. It goes like this:

Hero: Nico (intense, driven leader — even when Alex is leader and we don't yet know that he's the mole, she's still more The Hero and he's more her mentor) Lancer: Karolina (contrast to Nico, spars with her) Big Guy: Chase (Not too bright but will of iron, and note that he almost never makes the plans but is a good improviser) Smart Guy: Gert (pretty obvious) Chick: Molly (most naive member, everybody acts like she can't be exposed to danger, semi-subverted in that she's tougher emotionally than they think) Mentor: Alex (see above) Pet: Old Lace (of course) Sixth Ranger: Victor (originally an enemy — can we trust him?)

I haven't gotten to the part where Xavin actually becomes a member, instead of being only Karolina's fiance, so I don't know if he'd fit.

Seth: Molly is a subversion of Competence Zone. She is far from Naive, thats the whole point.

Morgan Wick: But does the rest of the team know that?

Tzintzuntzan: They don't, and they go to comic-opera lengths to shelter her from things she doesn't need to be sheltered from. She is naive in the sense that she doesn't angst like the other kids do, and is oblivious to how screwed up their situation is — although the story implies very strongly that this is either an act or a defense mechanism on her part.

To Ununnilum and Seth, I can pull the trigger on Runaways tomorrow morning, but I want to see if either of you wants first crack at it.

Ununnilium: Nah, the comic-book-wiki-entry part of my brain is stuck on Flash at the moment.

And in the above - Chase also feels like the Lancer, and Molly like the Big Guy, and Karolina's very Chick-ish, and and and... (Not to mention, they almost never have less than six.)

Morgan Wick: Seth pulled, but someone is gonna have to copyedit it...

Seth: I'm done with the main body now so people can start making their own edits without me trampling them.

Ununnilium: ...are you sure Toph isnt four foot five?

Lale: 4-foot-5 is short, 5-foot-5 is almost as tall as me. But we have way of knowing her exact height anyway. (Now, if Avatar were an anime, we'd know her height, weight, favorite food, least favorite food, and blood type.)

Wiki: From this old tv spot I refound where Mike explained her character, she's 5,2, 5,3 with bun. But from what I can rememeber, that description never really sat well. And though generally uncommon among American anime any cartoon wink, can make up that kinda stuff for their character. In fact haven't they done it for Kim Possible, and even Family Guy, and lets not forget Simpsons. Course that's been around forever so it basically was bound to come up at some point.

Lale: Moved the Kaoru Konoe example to Waif-Fu since 15 seems old for this trope.

This trope should not be confused with Action Girl:

  • Ty Lee also qualifies for this trope, as she has extensive knowledge of pressure points. Not to mention she's extremely girly.

AOD: Oh God, that picture of Molly from Runaways is perfect for this page! Kudos to whomever had that idea!
Madrugada (Apr 9, 2009): Is this for youngsters who are inordinately strong, or just small people? Because Aliera from Steven Brust's Vlad Taltos books isn't a child, she's simply a short adult who happens to be somewhat younger than the other major Dragaeran characters. If no one defends it within a month, I'm going to cut it. —- Dales Kaine: I think Yachiru would be great for the poster as well.
Greedy: Changed the bit about the junior Faerie Queens in the Dresden Files being prepubescent. Considering Harry's reaction to Maeve they're probably meant to be more in their late teens/early 20s and just young enough to make 30 something Harry feel guilty for being attracted. At least I hope they're meant to be, otherwise, bad Harry. Kept them as entries as petite young women still count for this trope.
