Working Title: Abusing the Kardashev Scale for Fun : From YKTTW

Cheat-master30: Why is basically the entire yttw discussion randomly placed at the bottom of the main trope page? Any real reason that someone has completely the ignored the idea of not having discussion in the main page, and why this page is starting to resemble an internet forum rather than a trope page?

Janitor: Hopefully, they are still working on it. It was launched only shortly ago.

@Janitor and Cheat-master30: Sorry, that was me, the article still needs a lot of work, but I was using the page to hold everything while I was editing it down. It should be fine now.

Janitor: Thought that was it. Hard-SF types aren't dump-n-run types, in my experience.

jokergirl: I think the Puppeteers should be moved up to at least Type II. They have the energy to move entire planets into a pattern, and move that pattern + a red giant sun out of the galaxy at just under light speed. Also, they have interstellar travel (not much, but that's due to their paranoia). "We had brought suitable worlds from nearby systems, increasing our agricultural worlds to four, and setting them in a Kemplerer Rosette."

Micah: Agreed—I've moved them up to low Type III.

I also removed the second Star Wars example: while the Death Star beam may be capable of recharging in 93 minutes, there's no indication of whether or not the Empire has the resources to keep firing it every 93 minutes perpetually...

The Galaxy Union from Tenchi Muyo! GXP/OVA universe is likely Type III as it is made of the Galaxy Academy (a triple ring world with each ring being the size of a solor system), The Juriaian Empire (not counting Tsunami, all tree ships of less then 3rd generation have power outputs grater then that of a star, 3rd-generation tree-ships have enuff power to destroy planets deathstar style (the bulk of their fleet is this level) , 5th-generation ships is more than a match for any vessel that any other space-faring nation can build, and a 7th generation tree can power a colony world by themself.), and the Seniwa (cotroled by Mihoshi's family and able to build Death star class ships) the univeres also has Choushin who literaly maded the universe(Type IV at least). Dr Clay who with help of tech given by Tokimi can move galxies.
Paireon: Minor quibble: Firefly/Serenity happens in a huge star system with an abnormally large number of inhabitable worlds. How would this affect their Kardashev rating? Wouldn't it make it easier for them to achieve Type I merely through the greater number of available energy sources, without necessarily giving them the tech our solar system would require? Anything else anyone can think of? (it's getting late, and I have a cold, so my brain isn't performing at peak right now)

Micah: Kardashev ratings are just about power output; as mentioned in the discussion below, the source of the power output is irrelevant. So yes, the Firefly 'verse should probably wind up with a somewhat higher rating than an equivalent-tech society in a smaller system.

Killer Clowns: moved from main page to discussion:
  • This troper wonders how many of the entries actually deserve the levels they got, given that a type 1 civilisation would need to be capable of utilising Mantle convection to generate power, just covering the surface in cities isn't enough.
    • The scale is entirely based on how much power a civilization can muster, not how. Sure, Mantle Convection might do it, but a large number of planets being harvested inefficiently, shiny bits stolen from precursors, or the application of phlebotinum, outright magic, or Minovsky Particles, among others, would work as well...
    • Or you could just use nuclear fusion of hydrogen drawn from the oceans, or put solar panels in space of an area equal to the surface area of earth. Type I is 'power equivalent to the Earth's energy budget', not 'uses the Earth's entire energy budget'.
