[[AC:Real Life]] * The German attack into France in May 1940 deliberately incorporated this. A secondary attack into Belgium was specifically intended to draw out the British Army in north-east France and force it to advance to combat in Belgium, as it had done in WW1. The British Expeditionary Force duly obliged, stretching its supply lines and pulling it away from a French Army that was desperately defending its own country. As the British pushed forward, a German force advanced on its flank and into its rear, cutting its supply lines and cutting it off from French intervention. The intention was then to destroy the British Army at leisure and force Britain out of the war. A series of desperate defensive battles ensued in which British forces were severely mauled. Then Dunkirk intervened. Btw, "Yank into melee range" suggests, at least to a British mind, this only happens to Americans! Thinking of the disastrous first American battle of WW2 (Kasserine, Tunisia) in which UsefulNotes/ErwinRommel lured a green untried American army led by [[GeneralFailure an idiot of a general]] into an ill-fated offensive. The Americans took the bait and a smaller - but battle-hardened - German/Italian force ripped them to pieces on prepared ground. Is SuckerPunch a trope title? (Apparently it's there but got cutlisted - but remains open as a future possibility)
