So, you sit down to watch a show, and it's full of NightmareFuel [[Literature/{{Goosebumps}} like a town full of ghouls created by a toxic spill luring in new families to feed on them]], SnuffFilm [[WesternAnimation/CourageTheCowardlyDog makers brought back as zombies trying to claim new victims]], or maybe some ParanoiaFuel [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E26ACanterlotWeddingPart2 like a creature that takes the form of a loved one to feed on you and drain you to a withered husk]]

Wow, that was terrifying, but wait.  Does that rating say TV-Y7? That can't be right, there's no way this is a kids show. Well, it is and you've stumbled upon this trope. Sometimes the fact they're supposed to be writing for kids doesn't stop a writer from pulling out the full arsenal of mature themes, and it's not limited to TV shows either. For further reading see GettingCrapPastTheRadar, and ParentalBonus, as large amounts of either can lead to this trope happening.

Some things to think about when adding examples:

*Mind the rating, nothing over PG is this trope(this can be shakier for movies before the PG-13 rating was implemented, so mind that too)

*Make sure the show was actually created for kids and it's not just a case of MisaimedMarketing(when a toy company thinks it's a kids show), or WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids(when a network or dub company thinks it's a kids show) This trope only applies if it was intended for kids from the start.

*Be wary of [[YoungAdultLiterature YA novels]], some of those are marketed at older High-School students.

*Just because a Manga or Anime is Shounen or Shojo, doesn't mean it goes here. Works classified as such can range from the equivalent of G to PG-13. So be mindful of the specific works rating before adding it here.
