DyingHeroBait, a better name that sound as what you want to say in this trope, OP (TheHeroDies... [[FakingTheDead but not really]]). Also, some examples to be added:

Anime and Manga:
* ''Anime/SpaceDandy'' series starts with the eponymous character and his companions go to a planet full of unregistered creatures, but all of them are [[AttackOfThe50FootWhatever giant species]] and [[EverythingTryingToKillYou not so friendly]]. The episode ends with Dandy making explode a bomb he has as LastResort... ending with the planet destroyed with all of them dead. But in the next episode they're fine and still looking for unregistered aliens. [[spoiler:In the SeasonFinale is revealed Dandy [[AGodAmI is a god]] and the events of the first episode ''really'' happens and they were alive thanks to him, as well in other episodes where he (or some of his friends) died too.]]

Live-Action TV:
* in Classic seasons of ''Series/DoctorWho'' ([[FanNickname most known as]] "Classic Who"), the episodes were originally arcs divided in 4-6 episodes of 20 minutes each one, until the [[Creator/ColinBaker Sixth Doctor]] in which the episodes are just an extended one of 45 minutes (idea that was reused in "[[FanNickname New Who]]" era aka Actual era since [[Recap/DoctorWhoS27E1Rose the 2005 revival]].) In the old format, the cut between episodes left the audience with the cliffhanger at the highest point, usually showing [[TheNthDoctor The Doctor]] or one of his companions at the edge of death of probably dying, just to show they saved from the danger at the start of the next episode.
