 - In Sleepless in Seattle, Tom Hank's son is repeatedly trying to set him up with Meg Ryan's character, Annie, who was one of the many women who wrote to him after hearing his story on the air. Tom Hanks is constantly resisting, preferring to date women in Seattle. When he finally does meet Annie at the end on the Empire State building, he is starstruck.
- Played with also in You've Got Mail. Hanks has been cyber-chatting with Meg Ryan for some time, but hasn't arranged a meeting, unaware that the two have actually met in real life and disliked each other. He then decides to arrange a meeting between the two of them. On the way there, he worries endlessly to his friend about whether she will be pretty or not - and even makes his friend check. The friend recognizes her but tries to cushion the blow by saying, "She's very pretty." Hanks immediately shouts, "I knew it! She had to be!" Of course, when he finds out who she really is....
