Carpet Diem

I personally think this is the weakest Gravity Falls episode so far. I still enjoy it, which is more than I can say for a lot of other "worst episodes of a cartoon" that I saw. But it has a ton of problems. The body switching cliche I hate. It's been done to death by other kids shows, like American Dragon: Jake Long, The Fairly OddParents!, and Wizards of Waverly Place. I honestly got tired of it. If it put some good twists on it, I wouldn't mind so much, but with the exception of the subplot, not a lot of interesting stuff is done with it. And the scene when it shown a bunch of people switching bodies because of the carpet made me groan. It got old really fast with the "I'm in a different body now" essentially being the only joke for the segment.

Also, the conflict between Dipper and Mabel doesn't make much sense until the end. They agree that they shouldn't be in the same room with eachother. But when they find a room, they compete over it. Why compete? One person moves into the room, problem solved. It''s not like the new room was portrayed as being better than their current one. But by the end of the episode where it revealed that neither one wanted the other to move out, I guess they were just competing out of spite? Still doesn't make much sense though.

There are things I like about this episode though. Grunkle Stan is at his worst here (in a good way), and nearly every scene with him made me laugh, from exploiting Mabel and Dipper's conflict for his own selfish gain, to giving a talk about puberty to Mabel, who was in Dippers body.

Stan: And now you know where babies come from.

I also liked it when Soos and Waddles switched bodies. Waddles in Soos's body freaking out Wendy and Stan was pretty hilarious for me, and Old Man McGucket trying to eat Soos in his pig body was also hilarious, especially when he replied to Soos saying he's a human in a pig's body is "that's what they all say". And he was so adamant about eating Soos, he'd do it even when Soos was human agin.

I guess what made this episode dissapointing for me is that there really wasn't much creative or exciting stuff in it for me. And that's part of the reason why this show is so great. With a rather weak conflict and plot, the only saving point for this episode was the humor in it. Don't get me wrong, this episode was really funny as I said before. But this episode would be much better if the plot was better. Maybe if the carpet was living, and planning on taking over Dipper or Mabel's body. That's a pretty good conflict. I do think this episode focuses on Dipper and Mabel's relationship the greatest out of all other episodes though, but it's hampered by how it does it by forcing a conflict that doesn't make sense. But with those the only saving points, I give this episode a B minus.

I can see your reasoning behind these points, but I think that the whole bickering siblings plot made sense in the way that when one sibling wants something, the other one will want it as well, especially in the tension of moving out that was going on between the two. You don't really look for logic when your mad at each other, or at least for a pair of twins who are maturing and spending the summer in a crazy supernatural town with an irresponsible uncle.

I agree with you, but I still think this episode was good. The body-switching idea WAS sort of cliche, but the episode was still better than the other sitcom episodes that involved "body-switching" (The Austin & Ally episode wasn't EVEN about body-switching, the actual body-switching was just used for a joke. And a terrible one.). Personally, my least favorite episode of Gravity Falls was Boss Mabel.

My personal least favorite is Dipper vs Manliness...

I have to agree that I think the sibling thing made sense. I don't even have siblings and I know that in many cases they'll compete just for the sake of "winning". And we've seen in other episodes (like "Little Dipper") that they'll compete over stuff with no practical purpose just to "win".

The bodyswitching was still cliche, but I felt like the humorous elements were strong enough to make it a strong episode nonetheless.

And the body-switching wasn\'t a total cliche. If you\'re paying attention to the episode, you\'ll notice that Voices Are Mental is not in play as it is in basically every other body-switch plot. The voices switching is solely for the sake of the audience at home, and does not occur in-universe.
