An evolved development.

What started out as a few (let's be honest) low jokes, silly ideas, and average voice acting has become a lot more. A lot of people say that it doesn't stand well on its own and that all it really did was break some ground for the video makers of today. That's not that case. It didn't simply break ground, it shattered that ground and paved a new way all its own that very few have been ambitious enough to fully explore. From the greatly upped production, the added CG scenes, and just the overall story; Red Vs Blue has grown into something that has shaped hundreds of thousands of people's sense of humor, sense-abilities, and dare I say even emotions. Unlike some shows that withered out after burning down to the wick, Red Vs Blue has instead burned into a magnificent fire that seems to only grow brighter by the days.

Though the comedy isn't always there any more; being replaced by drama and pain. But that adds new levels to the show as a whole. The jokes are still there, and new forms of comedy has been added in as the times go by. These characters that we've rolled around with and had a good laugh with are still who they are, but now we see the works behind it all. And to me, that's something special.

You can go ahead and say I'm wrong or just taken too far in by my love of it to be looking at the whole picture. I can't help that. Honestly though, Red Vs Blue has not missed a singe (great) beat in all the years I've watched it. Not one transition has gone that I haven't enjoyed. Somewhere inside, I know a lot of fans agree with that; even if a lot more don't.

I can never understand the "The series should have stayed focused on the BGC and purely funny" crowd.

Even as early as the third season, the series stopped being purely funny, and it was all the better for it. You can only sustain a series on jokes and slapstick for so long.

And while I like the BGC, the simple fact is that most of them have already completed their Character Development cycles. They've been through hell and come out on the other side, and most of their major issues have been grown out of, and any they still have are likely to remain. They're at that "as happy with themselves as they're ever going to get" stage, and we all know that tends to be death for a storyline.

So the series was never going to be able to stay as the Seasons 1 & 2 bit and still actually have a series all these seasons later.

Plus, there's plenty of humor and likable characters in the Freelancers, so the idea that it's now all drama and no comedy isn't even true.

So... yeah, I guess I'm saying I agree with you; there's been a few missteps here and there, but I feel the series has successfully grown all these seasons and stayed consistently watchable.

Agreed. People often say that they find Cerebus Syndrome makes a show boring, but I was honestly more gripped and intrigued by Reconstruction than I had been in any other season. And the new found plot and seriousness actually compliments the humour, making Reconstruction the funniest series I had seen yet. By Grounding their plot in a serious situation, Rooster Teeth allowed the wackiness of the Reds and Blues to stand out that much more. And honestly, The show never lost it's humour, it just GAINED it's plot. (And awesome fight scenes.) I did some counting a second ago and on This Very Wiki's Funny Moments page for Red Vs Blue, there are a total of 29 bullet points listed for BGC. Now, considering that BGC and the post Cerebus Syndrome RVB have roughly the same number of episodes, you'd think that post Cerebus series would have only about 15 bullet points in total. No, post Cerebus Red Vs Blue has over ONE HUNDRED bullet points. more than three times the Funny Moments from Blood Gulch Chronicles. Sorry, veiwers who say the show isn't as funny anymore, you have been defeated by simple mathematics!

Oh yeah, Reconstruction is still my favorite season just for that reason: the perfect mix of humor, seriousness, and action.

Well, it WAS... Until season 10 came along and absolutely blew it out the water. It kept Reconstructions perfect blend of humour and drama, as well as adding in the epicness that is Monty Oum. While I enjoyed season 9, and Revelations is still my number 3 favourite seasonthey both had their flaws

  • Revelations was utterly amazing and to this day I still think it has the best ending out of all the seasons but the CGI scenes were so good they overshadowed the other stuff, making the other 15 episodes seem like filler.

  • Season 9 was spectacular, but they made a mistake in dividing it up into: Plot Episode, Humour Episode, Plot Episode, Humour Episode. That meant fans of the humour were bored by the plot stuff and vice versa, not to mention it was let down by a plot that didn't seem to go anywhere and it lacked a suitable climax.

Season 10 fixed all those problems, everything is superb from start to finish and there is not a single episode I would hesitate to watch.

I think Season 8 was my favorite overall, but I'm still loving the other newer seasons as they come out. Great review.
