The epitome of It Gets Better

When I started watching this movie, I began disliking it within the first 7 minutes. Which is an accomplishment, because it's pretty hard for me to dislike an animated movie, let alone that fast.

What got me into this state was the pretty insulting setup. The beginning is just rushed, and turns something that should have been a big plot element into a throwaway gag - namely, the fact that Boos just march in, kidnap people from their homes, dump them into Australia, and take over the planet with absolutely NOBODY trying to stop them. That is just insultingly stupid.

And then we have our main characters. When they first appear, they are just annoying. Add in the fact that there are unnecessary pop songs everywhere, Toilet Humor abound, completely screwed up pacing and the movie not being able to just stop for a moment and let us take in all this, and we have what appears to be another Shark Tale...

But then, something that absolutely shocked me happens. Namely, after this really clumsy and poorly done first half, the movie becomes good.

The movie's pacing slows down, the characters cease being just magnets for stupid gags and start getting their development, the movie cuts out with the Toilet Humor, and the plot starts taking actual shape. And weirdest of all, suddenly the "humans are pushed away" element becomes important. The movie actually becomes genuinely good and likable, when it first started off as something as bad as Shark Tale. It's hard for me to even comprehend.

Mind you, this isn't enough for me to recommend this movie to anyone, but it was just... fascinating to watch how the movie's writing seemingly gets flipped upside down halfway through. If you ever get a chance to see this movie for free, take the time to just observe this fascinating phenomenon for yourself. It's genuinely mind-boggling.

That's not fact, that's only opinion. And the movie is indeed worth paying for, and this is coming from someone that actually expected something bad, mainly due to the stars (Jim Parsons and Rihanna).

@The Real Yuma: No, it is a fact, because that\'s literally what happens: Boos just march in, kidnap people from their homes, dump them into Australia, and take over the planet with absolutely NOBODY trying to stop them. I don\'t know how summarizing a part of the plot can be an opinion.
