Misogynistic drivel.

The series seems to promote the idea of Be Yourself and Give Geeks a Chance on a very shallow level, with plenty of cheap gags at geeks’ expense, and repeatedly resulting in pairings between actually attractive women and men with little to no merit: they are unattractive, lack all social standing, have no physical prowess or tact, and they don’t always come across as such Nice Guys Geeks are generally supposed to be smart, but they seem to lack even that. The women, on the other hand, are at the very least attractive, with or without an appealing charm and some social standing. To make matters worse, Tsuyoshi has figurines of underage girls in his bedroom, that go without comment when Sayori sees them. This is the wet dream of ‘men’s rights activists’, who whine about women going for arseholes instead of ‘nice guys’: in this series, the women who are Love Interests are not actual people, they just go along with what those MRAs claim should happen. In other words, everyone seems to avoid a very obvious questionnote  like a plague. This is probably the most misogynistic bullshit I’ve ever seen in my life that didn’t include explicit hatred of women—at the very least the male Love Interests of, say, Death Note and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann were attractive and intelligent/brave.

Aside from that, the series is somewhat repetitive, the gags are often dull, and there is so much Poor Communication Kills it borders on Idiot Plot.

If there’s any merit to the series, it’s some of the women’s Character Development, as they come to realise that their prejudice towards otakus is uncalled for; the problem is, they basically say ‘I don’t see geek’, but they also see nothing else.

5.5/10
