Adorable and happy, and that's how we like it

In a sea of grimdark and shock-heavy fanseries that don't seem to understand the meaning of the Pretty Cure franchise, Entwined Hearts is the bastion of happiness and love fans are looking for. The love between the protagonists and the developing mystery around them are sweet and draw people in, and as with Bukatsudo, Kris again focuses more on character development than anything else.

The series seems self-aware on this point as well. Individual episodes do have very Precure premises — the birthday episode, for example, is a common Shibata-era plot — and treat them in a progressive, friendly manner. For example, episode 19's bullying plot doesn't have any rock-throwing or slurs, but a frog, a marker, and a teacher who actually enforces the school's zero-tolerance policy, a sad rarity even in real-life schools. Entwined Hearts is something more fanseries should try to be like. The era of guns and gore is over, and not a moment too soon.
