An excellent game that I wish I could finish.

Let me just be straight up about this now: I have not finished Borderlands 2. I enjoyed the characters, I enjoyed the story, I enjoyed the vibrant, colorful landscapes, the reference-laden humor and the 87 bazillion guns promised on the package.

So why I couldn't I finish it? It was too goddamned hard and clearly not designed for solo-minded players like myself.

The original Borderlands was challenging, but not so challenging that I threw down the controller in frustration after dying horribly for the umpteenth time. The original Borderlands was not so easy that it warranted an upgrade to Nintendo Hard for the sequel. The sheer difficulty of the enemies you encounter make it apparent that Borderlands 2 was designed primarily for co-op play, something some players like myself simply can't do on a regular basis even if I wanted to.

I like this game. I want to finish it, but every time I try, it simply becomes frustratingly difficult to the point where it feels like a chore rather than a game. If it wasn't for this, it would be damn near perfect and that's what absolutely kills me about this. If I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't care. But I do, and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Would you mind telling me which Character did you play as please? I haven't played any co-op at all yet and despite some very sharp difficulty spikes, I managed to solo the game as Axton (I'm a solo minded player like you). I'm asking because you might get a bit more mileage at of someone else.

I'm not gonna lie, there were parts of the game and certain enemies that made me want to throw the controller in frustration (screw you rats and warp threshers), but it doesn't feel as bad as say, soloing Halo's "die in two seconds" Legendary mode.

I hope I don't come across self-hyping douchebag bragging about his skills (I'm really not the best at this game), I just think maybe you should try with a different character and put your points into different skills, as I don't believe soloing is as difficult as you put it.

I've actually been soloing as Axton myself. I can slog through with a good bit of level grinding, but that's where the "chore" part of my review comes in.

I had the exact same problem when I solo'd Borderlands the first. I found playing as Brick incredibly hard, to the point that I eventually gave up and restarted as Mordecai (which worked out a lot easier). Some characters just are bad for soloing, because their weapon proficiencies and special moves are kind of inappropriate. Brick's shotgun/rocket launcher preference is over specialised (you don't even get rocket launchers until about half way through the game), whilst his super power encourages you to strand yourself amidst hordes of enemies.

In Borderlands 2, I managed to scrape by with Salvador first time around. In general, I think the Siren characters in both games are the best balanced to Solo with. I've never played as the turret deployers though, so I can't say for certain.

Book me today! I also review weddings, funerals and bar mitzvahs.
