To think that this came after the Flashpoint Paradox movie....

Pros:

Green Lantern was hilarious

Cyborg was decently developed

Fight scenes look good

Animation and art is good

Cons:

Plot? Basically a cliche alien invasion.

Batman is over glorified in this film. This is a fact not an opinion. I love the guy but I hate when people give him way too much creidit, you want proof? 1. How the hell did he know who Clark was when he clearly stated in the beginning of the movie that he DOESN'T KNOW WHO SUPERMAN IS!!!??? 2. Everyone drops everything to pay worships to Batman (except Green Lantern) 3. He comes out a portal with Superman (who was possessed and was fighting him in a previous scene) and there was no indication of how the fight went. It basically implied that Batman somehow took him on without Kryptonite. Really?

None of the characters have much depth except for Cyborg (and Batman obviously but it is shown in the laziest way possible)

Why is Superman a douche? For what reason is this change necessary? I was interested at first.....until I realized they weren't going anywhere with it.

Why is Wonder Woman an idiot? And why is she literally there just to be fawned on by most of the guys on the team?

They had the device to take down the bad guys the ENTIRE TIME but they didn't use it?! Really? (Really Cyborg?)

Darkseid is an incredibly generic alien invasion lord. Well....at least the DC Animated Universe gave him depth.

Overall: Is this how the comic is? Cause if so, I am not getting it. This movie is worse than Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. I cannot believe that this came after DC's brilliant Flashpoint Paradox movie. Go give that movie a watch instead of this garbage. I have nothing else to say on this review other than that the only thing good about the movie is the art, animation, and fight scenes. That's about it. If you're expecting more, you're better off watching other DC Animated Original Movies.

Sigh, just so disappointing.

Crisis on Two Earths was pretty good, I don't know what you might dislike that much about it.... whatever, that's not the point.

Now to answer your question about the comic being like this.... yes and no. I read it a while ago so I don't fully remember, but while it has some of the problems you list (particularly the cliché alien invasion plot and Darkseid's characterizations), it also does a few things right. Mainly, more characters get great moments, Green Lantern while still cocky is less of a moron, Shazam is replaced by Aquaman who gets pretty badass moments and I think Wonder Woman was less ditzy (though I don't remember exactly for this). Also, the guys weren't flawning at her.

I also think Superman being a douche makes sense in the comic, where it's explored in his own series.

Theokal3:

Owlman and the multiple universe thing were really the only good things in the movie in my opinion. The rest I didn't really like. In my opinion it was the worst in the DC Animated Movies (as far as I've watched. I haven't watched all of them.)

It's also a shame to know that Darkseid's characterization is incredibly generic. What a shame. Also a shame that they really went with the cliche alien plot.

Thank god its explored in his own series. It was a really interesting change and I'm glad they at least explored it. I personally don't care about changes but they have to make SENSE and have some sort of DEVELOPMENT.

But that still doesn't excuse Batman's overglorification (I really hate when he is overglorified and the batman fanboys eat it up), the plot device that could have been used in the beginning, and the characters barely having any depth (unless it's in their own comic books).

At least the comic sounds slightly better. I also heard that the Battle For Atlantis storyline is pretty good. But after this piece of garbage movie I'm pretty skeptical about that.

You still aren't saying exactly WHAT you didn't like about it. Well, to each his opinion I guess. It left a pretty big impression on me.

Well, thing is, Darkseid's characterizations were justified in that he was intended to be more fleshed out in a later comics, which was done later; the book was supposed to focus on the League rather than on him. In a self-contained movie, on the other hand... well, you see the point. On the other hand there isn't any excuse for the alien invasion plot.

Indeed. In fact I heard the latter comics managed to even make the Superman/Wonder Woman relationship interesting, which is quite an accomplishment considering how..... shallow it was in this movie.

Well, personally I thought Batman wasn't THAT glorified here; I mean, he still got his ass kicked when fighting Batman the first time (it's actually kinda funnier in the comic, where the fight between the two happens offscreen, making you expect Batman kicking his ass... and when we cut back to them we find out Batman just used up all his gadgetry and still failed to leave even a scratch on Superman). It's not as bad as other examples, like say, Miller's work. Or some episode of The Brave and the Bold. Still, I understand your frustration; while I love Batman as much as any DC fan, I am really getting sick of him getting all the spotlight when there are so many other cool characters in DC, and when Superman could REALLY use some spotlight on his own (I stand by my point he is NOT bland and boring like so many fans believe).

I honestly don't remember if the plot device issue was in the comic...

Well, I did read one of the Throne of Atlantis book, and yes it was pretty good. People can say anything they want about the New 52, there is no denial it made a great job with Aquaman.

I don't really hate the New 52 that much. They had some great comics (Batman Comics, Flash: Rebirth, etc.).

I don't know about Aquaman but I heard he was cooler in the New 52. I'll have to see it to believe it.

I'll try explaining what I didn't like about Crisis on Infinite Earths....I'll keep it short because I'll write a review when I rewatch it.

1. Unnecessary romance subplot (I think you know what I'm referring to)

2. Alternate leaguers are one-dimensional

3. The characters didn't really develop...at all.

And that's all I'll say here...the movie wasn't terrible btw. I just think it was by far the weakest in the DC Original Movies (that I have seen). Me and my brother both agreed that the DCAU episode equvalent of it (a new world I think) was leagues better than the movie and it came with the DVD. But that may not be a fair comparison though...

The last part of the movie though made me wish that they focused more on Owlman and characterized him a bit more and made an accurate comparison between him and Batman. It can focus on the other members too but that should have been the main focus in my opinion.

^Plus, the plot jumped all over the place which gave less time to focus on the main storyline.

Honestly I don't hate the New 52 either, and there are in fact some books I really enjoy in it. But a lot of people dislike it, and while I do not share their opinion, there ARE some books (Teen Titans especially) making this dislike understandable.

Well, allow me to put it this way: the comic has a scene where Green Lantern delivers to Aquaman a speech that can be summed up to "Yeah, we can all do things like super-speed or tear steel apart, what can YOU do?" Aquaman answers nothing, turns around... and summons an entire army of shark who jump out of water and tear parademons apart. I REALLY missed that scene from the movie^^

Now for your point for COIE:

1)..... Okay, I have got nothing. You are right on that one. 2) Well, most aren't that developped, true, but considering how many characters there was, I think it's forgivable. 3) Same than previous one.

True, the DCAU was leagues above it. But then again, the DCAU is above almost everything DC made animated-wise after it. This was their biggest accomplishment, and the never really succeeded in making something as great.

Anyway, if that's your reasons, then yes, I can see why this movie disappointed you.

Aquaman sounds like a badass.

And Crisis On Infinite Earths could have been a really great movie, I just wish they focused on Owlman's characterization and the infinite earths plot rather than jumping around the movie.

I knew the DCAU comparison wasn't fair. But still, if you're going to put that on the DVD for COIE then how do you expect people to react towards it? Just saying.

Indeed^^ Again, this is why I feel replacing him with Shazam wasn't reallly a smart move (even though I am a huge Captain Marvel fan).

I see what you mean.

Okay, you have a point.
