I removed the He Panned It Now He Sucks section because people seem to be grossly misunderstanding what that trope is for. I would recommend it get reorganized under 8.8 with some edits to remove some of the heavy commentary, but I figured I'd start a discussion first.

So, keyblade333 removed the following, with the reason "Not really. People who complained about that were few and far between, and most times they weren't even fans of the games and missed the point of the setting. Its not really a saving throw since it was such a minor complaint.".

* Author's Saving Throw: The video games frequently drew ire from critics for their lack of racial representation. The show addresses these criticisms by giving the Race Lift treatment to several of the main characters, as well as having a number of non-white actors in various smaller roles.

Now, aside from the fact a lack of diversity's a fairly reasonable complaint, addressing criticism by definition counts for the trope, even if one viewer didn't personally care.

For this reason, I don't think the example should be removed.

I don't think the point is big enough to be a saving throw though. Many of the complains about the series from my knowledge aren't people who even played the games. It isn't a big deal, I just don't think its worth putting a trope for when it was never a big deal to begin with. Its great they added more diverse casting choices, but has there been any praises fo the show for that by people who complained about that for the games?

I think a lack of diversity is a totally reasonable complaint, but I personally have never heard of anyone actually complaining about it regarding the games. This could 100% be me not having my ear to the ground (I only have Wild Hunt and I haven't finished it so I'm not really on the message boards or anything), mind you.

But if there are complaints about a lack of diversity, even if it's by "not fans of the games" then it should apply. The entire point of an adaptation is to reach out to non-fans.

but has there been any praises fo the show for that by people who complained about that for the games?

I fail to see how that's relevant. Whether an Author's Saving Throw worked or not is immaterial to whether it exists.

I've seen multiple debates about it (it was actually CDPR's big controversy before all the issues of transphobia in Cyberpunk came up).

I've also seen praise of the series for including more diversity in the casting.

...I mean, technically that's what the entry is. Couldn't exactly exist if there was nothing.

Okay, so the whole shebang is gone now. The edit reason is Considering this is one of the main point of criticising toward the series, with never-ending Flame War, how's that a saving throw? Poor grammar aside, as I said before, whether the throw worked or not is irrelevant to whether it exists.

Also, there's some damn impressive second-level natter added that I absolutely have to address because it's hilarious. My comments in bold.

  • This criticism was largely dismissed by most players though, as racial diversity doesn't really make sense within the medieval Europe-inspired world of The Witcher. As such the series arguably Ah, "arguably." That's how you know this is going to be good loses a certain sense of realism, considering it's supposed to take place in a world where there really isn't any logical explanation for why there would be racial diversity in the cities and villages.Okay, I love how there needs to be an explanation for racial diversity on a continent. The idea that people could travel from a different land, breaks the suspension of disbelief. Or is it saying no explanation for why cities and villages would be integrated, which is even more nonsensical?. Especially noticeable when Jaskier seems to recognize Téa and Véa as Zerrikanian based on their skin color, which makes no sense in a world where people of different racial ethnicities are seen all over the place Kinda glossing over the fact that they were dressed differently, spoke with accents, and had unique names. Just because ethnicities exist doesn't mean people suddenly lose the ability to identify cultures. Most viewers don't seem too bothered by this though, and so far the racial diversity of the cast is seen as a relatively minor nitpick by most.Totally glossing over the idea that anyone could possibly see it as a good thing. Neat

A little late to the party, but in my opinion the entry in question didn't constitute an Author's Saving Throw because it was comparing two different properties.

The show and the games have separate continuities. The "author" of the show and the "author" of the games are two separate groups of people. The fact that both share a common source material doesn't make them the same thing.

The changes that the show-creators did in their adaptation of the books had no effect that I know of on the games. Since the games were not changed as a result of the criticism, no Author's Saving Throw took place, in my opinion.
