Considering that the ship being described belongs to the bad guys, Esoteric Happy Ending would be a case of Square Peg Round Trope, and it'd still be far too speculative.
I suggested turning it into an Epileptic Trees entry in Ask The Tropers, so here's a possibility for such an entry:
- Epileptic Trees: The Dominion's battleship may have destroyed the Valiant and killed the vast majority of its crew, but the explosion that came out of it following the unsuccessful attempt to Attack Its Weak Point was pretty significant. This, combined with the fact that we don't see this kind of Dominion ship again until near the end of the following season, leaves open the possibility that despite how badly their attack turned out, the Valiant crew did succeed in causing a major setback for the Dominion.

Wouldn't this just be a WMG and not go on YMMV as an Epileptic Tree? Unless it's a common theory in the community and just one troper's theory, it belongs in Wild Mass Guessing.
