Critical Research Failure. Disney ticked off a lot of fans including me when they put a tribute in their credits to Mulan thanking the Chinesse Propaganda Ministry. The same ministry responsible for the ongoing genicide against the ethnic Muslim minority in Western China. They are trying to erdadicate their culture and turn them into Haun Chinesse.

It's standard movie crediting practice, and it's an incredible stretch by people trying to promote certain political agendas. That's like saying a movie that credits the Florida film authorities is automatically endorsing the far right agendas of Governor De Santis. A ridiculous double standard.

Umh so this was added to the page commented out

  • Americans Hate Tingle: If the reviews in Douban (a Chinese review site similar to Rotten Tomatoes) is any indicator, the reception of the film is very negative in China with an average rating of 4.8 out of 10. Some common criticisms include the western stereotypes on Chinese culture (particularly the concept of honor and qi), and the bland characterization and plot when compared to the original animated film.

Does this trope apply if the actual country it comes from Doesn't like it either. It has a 51 percent rotten tomatoes audience score, a 5,4 on idmb and a 2,7 on metacritic for the audience too. I thought this trope only applied if the hate wasnt true in its base country.

It's an American made adaptation of a Chinese folk story. It still applies. The main demographic is still the Western audience, specifically Americans. Now if the Chinese audiences actually liked it, it would be Mexicans Love Speedy Gonzales. We just don't have a negative version of that trope so Americans Hate Tingle will have to do.

From the first line of Americans Hate Tingle

This is the opposite of Germans Love David Hasselhoff: a character or entertainer who is fairly popular in their home region becomes The Scrappy in another market.

That doesn't answer my question if the main demographic hate it just as much.

Is there a reason why the entire "Memetic Mutation" section was deleted?
