That seemed wrong to me, yeah.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. It's very definitely wrong, because the "tier lists" most people make for villagers is entirely based on their appearances since there are only 8 character personalities to begin with. They're too subjective and varied. It also seems odd that people talk about characters where one has an "appealing personality" while another is "grating" even though they're both Smug and therefore pulls from the exact same pool of dialogue options.
Well, the tier list on this page is rating the visiting NPCs, not the villagers.
Would Raymond wearing a maid dress fall under Discredited Meme? The author of the tweet that started the meme has expressed her disapproval over the "chaos" it has caused.

Edited by ronis Hide / Show RepliesI'm not sure whether that's actually expressing disapproval or just shock, but one person's opinion does not a discredited meme make, even if that one person is the reason the meme exists in the first place. What counts is if it seems like most of the fanbase is sick of the meme.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. It seems like the fanbase is in Broken Base mode over Raymond entirely (see the It's Popular, Now It Sucks! entry on the YMMV page), which might constitute discrediting, but only by half the fanbase? shrug
If it's the original creator expressing disapproval, that feels more like Old Shame or Creator Backlash than an outright Discredited Meme.
"Lucian, don’t be afraid, we’ll make it through this."Creator Backlash for the original creator no longer approving, but I think it is a Discredited Meme in general because the "excitement" of the fact has died down, and the only people who really bring it up are either a particular type of artist or people who are upset about it.
A commented entry has been added in the page saying not to add Zipper as The Scrappy because it's the event that caused the most trouble rather than the character himself. Quite a few people don't like Zipper himself regardless of Bunny Day, and that has been the case since his introduction in New Leaf. He's compared to Five Nights characters because of his appearance, he's rude and gives backhanded complements, his stiff movements and weird sound effects when he dances can come off as Uncanny Valley, and his entire character is like a Depraved Kids' Show Host, acting super cheery until he slips into insults. None of that has to do with the egg problem.
So apparently the triangle shades got a redesign for the worse, losing their iconic shape (which resembled Kamina's glasses or the Squirtle squad leader's glasses for instance) for something more generic looking.

Now, does this fall under They Changed It, Now It Sucks!? Evidently no one's happy in that thread, and I'm not too thrilled either. Is there a time frame that must pass to use that trope, like how Broken Base requires six months? Does it have to be a big deal?
Edited by xVanitas Hide / Show RepliesDidnt mean to reply, oops. We really need a delete button.
Edited by ronisI think it would. The glasses in question are actually called Cat Eye Glasses in real life.
Is sorting the visitor NPCs into Character Tiers an appropriate application of the trope? Everything on the trope's page is about player characters. The gameplay doesn't really force comparisons between these characters in the same way.
