I'd like to propose that someone add a new page involving Spoony regarding his Livewire game streams.
- I don't have a very good memory. You know, I've-I've heard people like, uh, can remember the names of their teachers from elementary school. I don't. You know, I... I'm bad with faces, I'm bad with names, really, um, and I don't- I don't even know what the- how early most people have, you know, memories, but, um, probably my earliest, one of my earliest memories is around the age of — it must've been three or four. We'd just moved to Arizona, and, um, my dad was an engineer, and, um, he had this new thing, it was this monochrome computer, uh, five-and-a-quarter-inch floppies. And, uh, it was the craziest thing, because, uh, it could do word processing and it could do spreadsheets and my dad would work from home, which, again, was this new thing. Y'know. You didn't have to use a typewriter. So, um, but when he was at work, my older brother and I would play on it, and we only had one game, it was probably the first game, probably the first computer game I ever played. And that was — it was Ultima III. I didn't play the earlier ones until a lot later, but yeah, we played Ultima III. And, um, my brother would play it with me, and he-he taught me how to play and I was so young, I didn't know what the fuck I was doing, like, I didn't know the story; even if you told me, I wouldn't understand it —you know, all I knew was, there was some bad guys on the screen and we made guys to go beat 'em up. Y'know. But he'd explain what's going on, and, uh, you know, eventually I kinda knew, I knew, very basic, I knew enough to — he-he'd let me play it on my own, he'd let me play his characters on my own and let me level 'em up and you know, just get gold, 'cause he needed gold, get the exotic weapons and stuff like that. And he didn't get mad if I got his characters killed, and I did that a lot, and he put a lot of time — we all put a lot of time into this, l but I was three or four, y'know, it's gonna happen. But, um, we got... we got so wiped out, the first time we went into Castle Exodus, by the floor. You know, there was a, there'd be dragons and demons in there and they could do this thing that was, your character could be dead or incinerated, and if he was incinerated, you needed, like, the highest level of magic to bring him back, you needed a great holy man, and, uh, but the thing that kicked our asses was the floor. And we, uh, we must've gotten wiped out like, shit, like, six, seven, eight times? We, we-we played, like, all — we played everything, we played Ultima IV, and I was older, of course, and he helped me understand the story and how it was different and what I was doing. And, um, I don't know if people — it was basically how I learned to read, was the Ultima games. It — you know, it, I wouldn't recommend it as a course, but that's just how it went, y'know, I, I just read what was going on on the screen, a lot of it was very simple terminology and stuff like — it was the first words I was really reading. And it got me interested in all sorts of stuff — it kind of helped shape my interests today. It got me interested in sci-fi, fantasy, I wanted to read more about characters like this, what was going on. It got me interested in D&D. You know, it — I was reading Tolkien when other kids were struggling with The Hardy Boys. You know, I was, I was reading D&D books at recess when other kids were playing four-square, and that got me in a lot of trouble. And, um, my older brother and I, we must have played everything up to Ultima VI while we were living under the same roof, and, and, uh, then he moved away, to college, he moved away, and — but that was our thing, when we were together, and I... but what I really appreciated about that was, he didn't have to do that, you know — he was like, shit, he was, like, ten years older than me. And, uh, you know — nobody likes to- nobody really likes their idiot younger brother, you know, when you're like, eight, ten years older than, nobody likes — you know, I was an idiot, I was a four-year-old kid and I cried and screamed and was a fuckin' moron — but he did, my sister didn't, but he did, and he'd play that game with me, because he was cool like that. And whenever I think of, uh, whenever I think of him, that's that's what I think of, and I miss that, and...I miss fighting the floor, you know, from Ultima III...He looks at the box, then angrily throws it away, then throws the other Ultima material away one piece at a time.STUPID! IT'S ALL BEEN A COMPLETE FUCKING WASTE OF TIME! All of this! All of — IT WAS ALL LEADING UP TO THIS!
I want to put this... somewhere. I don't know if the wiki has an applicable trope or not, but I think it should go somewhere.

What trope does it count as for this? Okay, let me explain. Ever since his reviews of Final Fantasy XIII, it seems he hates it when you have to dig in the game for the story when it should be at least made available in gameplay.
What is the music in the end of Human Spider? I heard it already, but can't remember.
So, is Noah in the V-Logs in character too or not? If so, it's been said that his Fan Hater tendancies are part of his character. Then why does he insist that people who like Final Fantasy XIII are lying to themselves?

I've noticed that this page acts as if Spoony is only rude to trolls and people who don't offer constructive criticism. I'm a little skeptical of that, since his reputation everywhere else is treating all criticism as the same.

You seen his forums? Most of the people there are nice but there's a terribly loud Vocal Minority that will troll, complain about everything, insult his friends and family and act hurt when the banhammer comes down.

Honestly, no I haven't. But given his reputation, I wanted to make sure this was fair, and not just a blind, biased defense. TGWTG fans do have a tendency to be overly defensive of the contributors.

I'm sure anyone accusing him of being overly sensitive could find examples to back them up, but having spent some time on the forums, I have to say that Noah has had the misfortune of attracting some of the worst trolls I have ever encountered as "fans".
There are individuals who respond with pure bile whenever he collaborates with any other TGWTG contributor, fails to get a video out soon enough for their tastes, or experiments with the format of his show.
It's possible he has been a little over-zealous in fighting back against this, but I can't really blame him. The comments about his crossovers in particular, can include some very personal attacks, and he has mentioned that some of his friends dread working with him simply because of this.
Hell, I'm a little surprised he still maintains a community at all, instead of just getting rid of the forum and comment sections on his videos, and just reading comments on the (somewhat more civil) TGWTG site when he wants feedback. Okay, so that probably would be overreacting, but I don't think what he's doing now qualifies.
I'm sorry how is making not liking his videos a bannable offense not overreacting? Or like, pruning comment sections for dissent? Can't forget randomly insulting people on twitter! Or the time he banned people for complaining about his front page being covered in pornography!
This entire thing is waaaay too one-sided bordering on the ridiculous.

Can someone please explain to me how Spoony "sort of" apologized for saying, "Final Fantasy VIII sucks, and you suck for liking it!" The part of the main Spoony Experiment page that mentions it wasn't really clear. What I mean is, can someone supply a direct quote of exactly how he "sort of apologized?"

The entry on the main page is referring to when Spoony brings it up in the Final Fantasy VIII Finale commentary, towards the end I believe. I think he also brings it up in the Final Fantasy X finale commentary as well.

And this troper, sadly, made one comment on Twitter that seemed to get a little too close to home and banned me from following him. I am at fault, and I don't frequent his forums, so I wasn't really warned ahead of time, but I feel like that was perhaps too rash a move...not sure if he'll ever overturn that decision or whatever, as it kind of hurt me in it's own way.
Not so much a trope issue, but are any other Safari users having trouble getting on Spoony's site? Seems like every other time I go on, it causes my browser to freeze up.

Dick move on Noah's part, but frankly if he wants to ignore a good game for superficial reasons then I don't care either; it's one less distraction from suitable review fodder. IX is good enough not to be decent riffing material.
But yes, he should be taken to task for acting like a self-important prick. But he won't be.
Everyone has had something they would normally like but dislike due to one small aspect that they just can't get over. For me one of the reasons I half-scorn Bakugan is because I WISH I HAD TRANSFORMING MARBLES IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
Uh, anyway. Yeah, Spoony was a little rude about it but that's how he is. It really is hard to focus on the good aspects of something when you're distracted by the bad constantly though. So it goes both ways. From the sounds of it, it was a FF 9 fanboy trying his damnedest to get Spoony to review it, and considering the scorn Spoony already has for it, I don't want to think how bad he'd bash it.
Spoony was admitedly kind of rude. However, I'd have to say the fan was a lot ruder. Spoony said in his X review it probably was a good game and he was being unfair but he just can't get over the graphics. I think all of us have something like that honestly, and the fan should be glad he's not going to review FF 9, since as people have said, he reviews BAD games.
The caller on the other hand, was aggressive, loud, kept pushing the question, badgered him and was trying to make him do it. Honestly, if someone is trying to force something onto you, you're going to be a little peeved.
And this is coming from one of the biggest fans of FFIX you will ever find.

Spoony was initially polite with him and said he didn't want to in a perfectly reasonable way. The caller kept pushing and was continuously more aggressive and Spoony kept saying no until he got annoyed.
And I'm sure Spoony appreciated the donation. He always does. That does not mean he is under any obligation to play the game. I'm sure he tried the game before. Probably years ago and he just doesn't want to. Yes, how dare Spoony not play a game he doesn't want to play.
Dark Sage has a great point. He reviews bad games most of the time. He never said FF 9 was a bad game, just that he didn't like it. And the caller was getting increasingly persistent, so it's very likely he was a hardcore fanboy. Let's not push the issue anymore shall we? We've got a lot of complaints that Spoony is a jackass, and we don't need another big argument like the one above.

If I had been in the contributor's shoes I think I'd have been pretty livid; there's nothing petty about that observation.
AGAIN,we don't need a big argument. Anyone would be ticked to be blown off after giving your money up to charity, but this guy was obviously charitable before talking to Spoony. They always thanked EVERY single donation that they called/got called by, and atthe end Spoony did thank him for his donation. Of course Spoony was thankful, but seriously you guys are sounding like someone saved his life and he wouldn't fork over the bus fare to get the guy home.
The guy donated to charity. That's awesome. But you can't go "Well he donated to charity, I mean can't you do this for him?"
And zetzugami, being livid because someone doesn't do what you ask because you donated to a valuable cause?...You'd get upset about not getting anything back from CHARITY? Seriously? It's a good cause, that's why they do the drives. The caller was an intense fanboy by the sounds of it but he never insulted Spoony and neither did Spoony. The worst he said was "Your question annoys me." And it's only annoying because he's gotten tons of emails about 9 already and now he has to talk voice to voice with one of those fans.
Everyone is at fault here. Spoony could have been a bit nicer, but again, Spoony didn't owe the guy anything. The caller could have been a bit less intense in trying to get Spoony to retry it, but he did just donate to charity. We get it. Everyone just please stop arguing because it's just a cycle of hate all over again.
Final verdict: Spoony could've been nicer,but he already turned down that game months ago. He has no obligation for it at all.
If anyone has seen his Mazes and Monster commentary, he says how a teacher at his school let them play D&D in his room and how his mom had fears about the game but totally changed her mind when she saw Noahs friends. I was trying to think up what tropes these could go under, I was thinking CMOA or Badass Bystander for the teacher and CMOH or Heel Face Turn for the mom but I'm not sure if they really count.

Badass Bystander and Heel Face Turn sound right...but specific tropes would be one relating to some authority figure going against the establishment on one issue based on his opinion. Badass Teacher maybe? As for the mother, she was really uninformed and changed her opinion. Is there a specific Heel Face involving lack of information?
wait, how does letting someone play D&D in school make you badass? I think that's quite a stretch, and really it's his mom, she was never a heel so heel face turn doesn't make sense either.
A teacher knowingly going against the rules because he knew better than that it was all cultist crap? Consider the majority of high school teachers. How many would do that? Only the badass. Also, as any strictly upbrought-as-Catholic-cum-homosexual would say, sometimes parents aren't always good people. The fact that his mom believed the rumors until she could confirm otherwise is why I asked about specific Heel-Face Turns.
well spoony never said she was a bad person so it's not really a heel-face turn, just misinformed and the fact that she thought she was "defending" him from it with good intentions so well intentioned extreamist seems to fit well
and the teacher is more of a plain ole nice guy, what he did really isn't insanely ballsy enough to really be badass, just a plain ole opened minded nice guy(and in my opinion, better then being a badass)
That's very true. Maybe a single trope then. Which one refers to maybe a light amidst darkness? Where everyone believes something and only a small few see the truth?
I think it's time to edit this page to discuss it in the past tense - Noah Antwiler may still produce content, such as it is, the the Spoony One and the Spoony Experiment is over. The website hasn't been active in any meaningful way for years, the forums are down. It's done.
