Perhaps Unexpected Gameplay Change might fit? Even with the ranking system in the rest of the game emphasizing speed, there's always several tactical options and the possibility of grinding out a victory if necessary. Puzzle mode flips that on its head with such limited routes to success.
Is there a good trope to describe the Puzzle Mode in the game? Especially with its many one-turn puzzles?
