In each of the sidequests where you have to choose between the Jobmasters, both sides are supposed to have a valid and/or agreeable point, making it difficult to pick one. However, on both the main page and the Unintentionally Unsympathetic entry of the YMMV page, it is pointed out that Alternis Dim's attempts to maintain the poor laws is rather unreasonable, given that the economy of Grand Ship will collapse in a few weeks unless the excess taxes are removed. Siding against Alternis seems to have the best ending, since it saves both the economy and allows the citizens to support the orphans.

That is why I would like ask this question about the sidequests to the players: Which choice in each sidequest seems like the best and logical answer to you, and why?

Anti-Frustration Feature

"The Fight On mechanic makes grinding much less tedious. Not only do the multipliers allow you to get more bang for your buck, but since you're thrown into another battle immediately, you get to run around less waiting for Random Encounters."

Is the 'Fight On' mechanic really an Anti-Frustration feature? Personally, I've found its inclusion to be rather irritating; grinding now takes longer, as each battle is no longer just ONE battle - it's now 4 or more, and it's possible to have the same encounter rate as Bravely Default's. So instead of 10 random encounters, it's effectively 40-100+. 'Saving time' my rear end.

Additionally, it takes 10 straight battles to reach the cap, and it's reset for each random encounter, instead of being carried forward, a la Bravely Default's system.

Furthermore, due to how the 'Fight On' mechanic works, Obliterate is made useless - it can no longer reach bonus multipliers, meaning the player's stuck at 1x until they unequip the Ability. Compare this to Default, where Obliterate easily and consistently got Sweeper/One Turn/Untouched Heroes (the highest multiplier).

Lastly...the 'Fight On' mechanic doesn't refill BP, so in order to achieve those higher multipliers, you need to kill all the enemies with one BP. Except that's difficult to do, since Obliterate doesn't enable 'Fight On', multi-target moves can cost more than 1 BP or not kill every enemy. If you use up too much BP on a single battle, you cannot reach the maximum multiplier.

In Bravely Default, where the bonuses were dependent on 'not getting damaged', 'kill all foes in one turn', and 'kill all foes in the same move', BP didn't matter; use Valkyrie's Crescent Moon all you like. Here, in Bravely Second, nuh-uh.

Yeah, I definitely think this specific point is more Your Mileage May Vary than a full-on 'everyone accepts this so it belongs on the main work page' point.

Anti-Frustration Feature is wildly misused. The Fight On mechanic wouldn't qualify even if absolutely everyone loved it, because it doesn't fit the trope.

"Anti-Frustration Features (sometimes called "Quality of Life" features for obvious reasons) are instances in a game designed to alleviate frustration, either in normal gameplay or from previous series iterations.

There are two variants to them. The first is where the established rules of the game are suspended/modified under certain circumstances, or a particular effect that happens when the game deliberately helps you out during a specific situation. Usually an example of an Obvious Rule Patch to prevent unwinnable situations from developing, such as if a given Boss Battle mandates the use of one specific weapon with limited uses (be it Breakable Weapons, Cast from Hit Points, or a simple lack of Bottomless Magazines). It can also occur in other situations, but those are less common.

The second is where they come in the form of very minor changes to the game or interface that provide great conveniences to the player, which removes great sources of frustration that were absent in the prequels or similar games of their genre. "

Pulled:

  • When you activate New Game Plus at the end of Chapter 4, the game points out that you MUST use a new save, when normally New Game Plus is an expansion on the previous saves. Your OLD save is needed to change this fake New Game Plus into Chapter 5, by summoning your party from Chapter 4 to change the earlier Hopeless Boss Fight into a Curbstomp Battle...

because... there's no trope. please
