There are twelve modes, each allowing to see yuri in increasingly more innocent situations:
0 - Off; relationship/interest is explicitly stated/shown (ex. Strawberry Panic, Sasameki Koto) 1 - Heavily implied, characters mention the possibility but nothing is confirmed 2 - Heavily implied, no characters notice (ex. Saki) 3 - Moderately implied, characters make jokes about relationships (ex. K-On!) 4 - Moderately implied, no one notices 5 - Lightly implied, jealousy toward characters that hang around with an object of admiration
5.5 - YURI THRESHOLD - This is the point when series cease to be yuri.
6 - Girl mentions yuri/lesbianism = she's gay 7 - Statements that are only sexual in the given context (50% of anything in the last 10 years) 8 - Girls in a close relationship, especially if it involves physical contact (70%) 9 - Girls comment favorably on one another's womanly features (80%) 10 - 2 girls on screen; they're gay for each other (95%)
WTF THRESHOLD - This is the point when yuri is impossible
11 - Girl attracted to girly looking guy 12 - 2 crossdressing guys in a relationship
Variable - Girl attracted to crossdressing guy without knowing that he is a guy.
