The part about synthetic diamonds should be corrected. They are called 'diamonds' because they are made of carbon and have a similar (but not identical) molecular structure. It is in fact a different thing, and has no impact on the price of natural diamonds for jewelry. (While harder than natural diamond, they are also ugly.)

Sorry, you can disregard that. It seems there are other varieties of 'synthetic diamond' that I was not aware of.
