I notice the page-quote source was changed again (3 May 2011 by Arivne). Since the original quote is actually attributed to Dwight L. Moody, and the YKTTW was originally posted without reference to Buckaroo Banzai, I don't think Buckaroo Banzai is really the Trope Namer. I'm unclear on selection policy for page quotes, but I think either the source should be reverted to "(American) Proverb" or else the link to Trope Namer should be removed.

The Millgram experiment isn't an example of this in the slightest, as they had to take people who would participate in the experiment in the first place. Anyone who would have qualified for good character would have been eliminated from consideration before the experiment started!

I removed the Serenity example, as it's not any kind of test of character. Mal certainly has no problem with killing the Operative when he has the advantage; see earlier in the film where he tries to do just that. He's also not being merciful here, for he makes the Operative watch what is essentially the failure of his ideals. This was just a more thorough defeat than just killing him would have been.
