Why exactly does the description make this out to be a villain trope? I don't even think it's more common fog villains than it is for heroes.
Both the page quote and the page image are heroes subject to this trope (admittedly it's their Origin Story, but still), and I'd say less than half of the examples are even villains, and the only example I can think of that took place mid series after a Disney Death made a Heel–Face Turn after his upgrade.
