The re-imagining of Battlestar Galactica is listed as an exception because it made it to its finale after cancelation, but wasn't the plan for the series to end it after the fourth season, making this not a cancelation but an planned finale?

Forgive me if you already thought of this, but the best show(s) I ever found seemed to have the ability to induce psychosis in its (or their) viewers. This would explain why many good shows (such as Scrubs) seem to have Crises of Existence.

The article spends some time theorizing about why the majority of these shows are from the last 15-20 years, but the writer(s) seem(s) to have missed an obvious reason why: before about 20 years ago, there were far fewer television shows. In the U.S., there were the three major networks, and Fox was just getting started. There were no cable originals, not by HBO or Showtime, much less Lifetime or Sy Fy. Several of the cable networks with prominent original programming didn't even exist at the time.

I know this is a YMMV trope, but don't we need some standards about what constitutes Too Good To Last? To pick on one example, the show Angel lasted five seasons. Now, in this troper's humble opinion, that was four seasons too long given the show's actual quality, but the fact is that five seasons is a pretty good run for most shows, and is long enough to get a show into syndication. How long can a show run and still be said not to have lasted?

In any case, I am deleting this:
* Angel especially when compared with Charmed and Smallville
because five seasons definitely constitutes lasting, and Angel is also listed under exceptions, where I'm leaving it, but a show can't be an example and an exception.

Anyone think Chuck should be listed under exceptions? I feel like if it had been canceled after season 2 it would definitely be listed as a straight example, and it was perennially on the bubble of being renewed.
