I've never studied in a yeshiva, and I didn't grow-up in Orthodox Jewish culture (so main folk culture they make the mistake), but I've never seen masturbation-as-sin related to the story of Onan. There are other texts e.g. a respected sage who said 'Masturbation is as bad as murder.' on the basis of it's not creating future generations, and wasn't immediately shouted-down, but Onan's sin is, as far as I know, always presented as disobedience to G-d and selfishness in not preserving his brother's name.
We should add a paragraph about some of the actual documented harmful effects of pornography, including addiction, the role it plays in divorce, and how it causes sexual dysfunction. The way the trope is currently written, it sounds like it's almost promoting masturbation.
