Is this really a trope, or should it be marked Trivia?

I was going to say the same thing. It's essentially the opposite of Dawson Casting, which is a Trivia trope.

Removed:

  • Forrest Gump: Sally Field, who plays Mrs. Gump, is just ten years older than Tom Hanks. And on top of that, they previously played love interests in the film Punch Line. To Field's credit, she also plays his mother in scenes when he is a child.

Seems like misuse. First, a good chunk of the movie is set at times when Forrest is a kid. Second, the make-up for her aging is convincing and she doesn'T look like her son's peer at all. Third, the actors' other roles are irrelevant.

"(Note that this trope does not apply if the the actress is convincingly made to appear her character's age.)"

This part of the discussion means this trope could probably use a lot of clean-up. For instance: Sally Field in Forrest Gump starts out playing the mother of Michael Humphreys, who is 39 years younger than her. As young Forrest ages into adult Forrest, played by Tom Hanks, Field is aged accordingly. And that's just the first example under "Film."
