Can there be non-romantic examples of this? Like, how in universe, someone finds someone else's jokes funny when no one else does?

Gotta love the stories where they're still together because 'they're trying to make it work', even though they are doing absolutely nothing that would actually work through all the issues and problems they have and reach a new understanding of themselves and each other. But then, that takes work, and kicks them out of their comfort zone, however horrible it is, and both have to be willing to do the work.
