Trying to recall a novel that uses this trope — maybe by Holly Lisle? The main character is bipolar, but she is a berserker in an alternate world, instead. I remember reading it as a kid and thinking how intriguing it was. Her bipolar disease is presented as a serious issue in the real world, to which she periodically returns. It might be the first book I ever read with a non-neurotypical main character, where that wasn't played for disability porn. Anyone know what it's called?
