Iambic: Would that production of Taming of the Shrew, by any chance, have been the American Shakespeare Center's touring performance? If so, I know exactly what you mean and two huge parts of my life have just collided.
There's currently a lot of overlap between this trope and Lethal Joke Item. We should probably make a distinction that this trope is for using bizarre weapons as a primary tool and not an alternative to a more traditional weapon in the character's arsenal.
