So... what is this? A character, a reaction, a plot? It could really do with a laconic description and an example cleanup, because there are examples of all of the above listed on the page, and they're not even consistent about the situation they're describing.

Is this a cousin of Oblivious to Love? I get the feeling there are a lot of works - often but not always Eastern - wherein the protagonist realizes that their love interest is, well, interested in them only after the entire supporting cast has figured it out. Can't name any off-hand though.
