Are Gory Discretion Shot and Sound-Only Death subtropes of this, or is this only for cases where the death occurs "out of scene" — as in, we only find out about it second-hand or by implication, as opposed to it happening just off-camera but still within the scene we're watching?

Gory Discretion Shot doesn't require someone to actually die, so it's not a subbtrope. Sound-Only Death seems like a bona fide subtrope.

I really think the point of this is that someone's death scene not be shown at all, that the character dies while the camera (and audience) is somewhere else entirely, not just slightly off the edge of the screen.

(spoiler alert, sorry)
I can't edit I'm too dumb, but 'No Country for Old Men' has the main character die offscreen and I don't see it here. Someone more experienced I call upon thee. (sorry bye)
