Pulled this from the Red Dwarf entry:

In the same episode, Rimmer, seeing how much Camille means to Kryten, bows out. "Look, if Kryten wants to take an amorphous green blob for a discreet tete-a-tentacle, I say good luck to him."

Rimmer "bows out" because once it turns out Camille isn't really his "perfect woman" but an amorphous green blob, he is completely uninterested in her.

I think it may have something to do with For Happiness, too. Especially if it contains "I hope you will be at least as happy as unhappy it made me to lose you, so it makes my grief worthwhile".

The Casablanca quote doesn't fit this trope. He doesn't give her up to make her happy, but because Laszlo's work is more important then either of them. He even says that they "don't amount to a hill of beans" compared to saving the world.
