Should this really be its own trope? It's just a linguistic quirk, with no plot value at all. If TV Tropes begins to add every single turn of phrase to its database, we'll have to rent more servers.

It should be a trope because it is more than a quirk, it is a bit. It does have plot value. It is not a single turn of phrase but rather a trend to many phrases.

Because of the trope name, not a single goddamn person read the description before rushing in to put their two cents in. Consequently, this page is completely useless. Worst of all, I don't even know if there are enough examples that fit the description to make this a popular subversion. What do we do with this?

I believe this is a dialogue trope. People are quoting the exact dialogue that uses the trope. There are many examples here.

No, the trop is..

Q: "even X?"

A: "especially X!"

Elihu is right, we should rename this. I just removed 3 examples where peoe think any use of "especially" qualifies.

Zoidberg doesnt even belong because he is not one of the examples.

What we should do is organize our present examples chronologically and go with the earliest as the trope namer.

This could use some cleanup.

The trope is specifically stated to refer to an absolute statement - that is, something that's true or false. This makes sense as a comedy trope, because if it's a variable or subjective statement, then the 'especially' is no longer funny - it's simply a statement (or part of a different joke that doesn't involve misuse of language).

The joke is that you can't be especially dead - you can only be dead or not dead. The example sections, unfortunately, are littered with uses of the term 'especially' that are NOT used for comedy this way.
