The description essentially says that the trope is "a mysterious entity is responsible for bestowing the hero's powers", and yet there are several examples that do not comply (e.g. Shamal). Am I simply misunderstanding the description, or do we have other editors who did not bother reading it, and even seem to be grossly misunderstanding the title?

Yeah, people seem to be interperating "the Lady of the Lake's role in standard Arthurian myth is the Trope Codifier" with "The Lady of the Lake is always an example, regardless of her role in the story".

This is an update/revamp/rename of an old trope, as per a TRS thread. The trope used to be called Empowering Lake Lady, and the old YKTTW can be found here.
