I love the Zelda's (OOT and forward) solution. Just jump off when you are supposed to, instead of pixel-perfect jumps that made SNES and Genesis games infamous for them.

And compare to Tomb Raider (The early EIDOS ones), where you need to press 4 buttons to approach a ledge, jump, and grab the other ledge accross a chasm, while in Zelda you just run with Link at full pelt, and he'll do the rest "by instinct".

I hate to get all Wikipedia on a trope, but... does anyone have a citation for the whole 'you can't walk off an edge in real life' thing? I don't doubt that it's true, but I've never heard this before.

My own reaction to the article is that one has to *know* the precipice is there.
