Can someone explain the title? I mean it's fine, but is it to be read as "the wife of the determined homesteader", or as "the determined wife of the homesteader"?

The former, given the description and its relation to Determined Homesteader.

Really, it can be parsed as both at the same time. Not only is she married to a tenacious homesteader, but she's more often than not tough-as-nails herself.
