Please be gentle with me.
Took out another Fullmetal Alchemist example, because well, it isn't really an example.
- In Fullmetal Alchemist, despite being a Major in the Army of Amestris, Edward Elric is never once seen wearing military uniform. Then again, he isn't particularly fond of the military. Of course, considering he joined at the age of twelve, it's possible they just don't have one in his size.
- WHO ARE YOU CALLING A MICROSCOPIC DWARF WHO HAS TO BE DRESSED IN DOLL'S CLOTHES!!!
- Lt. Colonel Kimbley wears his uniform with the tunic unbuttoned, and nobody complains. Probably because he's a Mad Bomber who has no qualms with using his own men as explosive material.
- After he's released in the manga, he tends to wear a white suit instead of his uniform. By contrast, in the anime, he keeps wearing the uniform.
- Should be noted every State Alchemist is a major by defult, guess the civilian/non-combat ones get more leeway
- Bingo. While Ed "could be called to the front lines at any time", he's yet to be placed into actual military combat or full-time service. Probably doesn't have to wear the uniform until then. Shou Tucker was a similar case, and Dr. Marcoh didn't have to wear the uniform even during the Ishval Extermination Campaign, likely 'cause he's a doctor, not a combatant. Kimbley probably wears the white coat because, as mentioned above, nobody's brave enough to contradict him.
Please be gentle with me.
