I've tried to patch this page up a little — mostly just by moving references to the related tropes Noir Episode and Whole-Plot Reference into the main description — after some of its issues came to light in this ATT discussion.

In my opinion, the Noir Episode and Whole-Plot Reference types don't amount to internal subtropes, just clusters of coincidental overlaps, so it doesn't make sense to have them listed separately. But since I wasn't involved in the creation of the page I don't know if I have the right to reorganize the example list.
